Marina Food Loft and a culture SHOCK

I might have scared some of you off with the prices of food in Singapore in my Chilli’s entry recently. The fact is, the prices of food in Sin City is extremely affordable if you know where to dine. We’re no foodie bug so we did not specifically go to any place looking for Singapore’s famous food.
We had our meals at Marina Food Loft as it is within a walking distance from the hotel we stayed.
Rice dishes like the above cost S$3.80 only. Try getting the same thing in the food court in KLCC, how much will you have to pay? At least above RM7 right? So if you don’t convert, food is actually cheaper in Singapore.
Dessert such as this Ginkgo Barley costs S$2 only. After a HOT day outside, we definitely welcome this dessert to cool us down :D
Now, I want to share something with you guys. I don’t know about you guys but what I encountered while dining in Singapore is certainly something NEW to ME!
While we were looking for a place to sit, we saw this empty table with a packet of tissue placed on it. We thought someone had left it behind after having their meal there so we just pushed the packet of tissue aside and sat there!
While I was having my meal, I saw a lady approaching our table with an angry look (she looks like  one of the Angry Birds) and took away her packet of tissue. I was not aware why she was so angry until I looked around and saw …
More packet of tissue on tables!
OMG! So that is the Singaporean culture of ‘booking’ their seats! My gawd! Did you know? Well.. NOW I know! @_@
In case you missed it, here’s a list of where we went in Singapore

Haha.. I thought this use to happen in hawker centers last time.. They used umbrella and tissue paper to "chop" seats. Didn't know they even extend this practice to the food courts now!!!!

  • //

yeah, i always think food in SG is relatively cheap (of course don't do the forex conversion).. you can still get S$2 for something to eat, but where else in KL?? RM2 maybe for one piece of bun~~

  • //

Actually when we compare, we are earning lets say RM2000 and paying for +- RM5 per meal. They are earning also about SGD2000, paying for food about SGD3.

  • //

only S$2 for the dessert!? i love it!! haha yeaa mmg dey use tissue packet to book seat or table one ma. ;)

  • //

LOL! Yea I know about this Singaporean culture of booking tables.. :P

  • //

Yes, i think i came across that before in Singapore.. "as reserved" .. only we malaysians have not practised it over here yet.. :)

  • //

hahaha my sis said the same thing happened to her before when she first landed there…hahaha always remember to bring a packet of tissue

  • //

This is a very bad practice. Normally done by a single person who wanna hog the whole table. I kept the tissue everytime i saw one and acted as if nothing happened XD
