Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables with Oyster Sauce

Do your children eat vegetables? Mine do not eat leafy types but are okay with okra, broccoli, corn, carrot and those sort. One sure way to cook these vegetables so they’ll polish them clean is to stir-fry with oyster sauce with lots of mushroom and occasionally adding ‘baby eggs’ as the boys simply love those. Stir-Fried Mixed Vegetables with Oyster Sauce Ingredients: Baby Corn Broccoli Cauliflower Shimeiji Mushroom Quail Eggs Prawn Carrot Capsicum Garlic Shallot […]

Cook with Ethan: Homemade Popcorn

With the mid term exam done and over with and the school holidays is here, it only means it is time to have fun, FUN and MORE fun! We officiate the two-weeks school break with popping our own popcorn. I’ve blogged about making our own popcorn some time ago but now it is time to pass the skill to the boys or rather the big brother Ethan. Homemade Popcorn Ingredients: A bowl of corn kernels […]

Cook with Ayden: Ayam Masak O

We are going to share a Peranakan Nyonya dish today. It is a popular soup dish called Ayam Masak ‘O’.  One of the quickest and easiest soup to prepare, it is easily a favourite among children as well as adults with its soupy gravy, soft potatoes and flavorful chicken with lots of ginger. Though we use ginger to cook this, it is not gingery hot but rather just nice to complement the whole thing. Best […]

Cook with Ayden: Chicken Stew

Little Ayden is getting really comfortable with our rice cooker these days. He uses it to bake cakes and recently cooked a chicken dish in it. I saw how easy it was to cook using the rice cooker and decided to let him try cooking Chicken Stew in it. There is a whole lot of ingredients required to cook this Chicken Stew but these are mostly basic stuffs that you’ll usually have ready in your kitchen on […]

Cook with Ethan: Bendi Goreng Bawang Belacan

After all the cooking videos I did for Ayden, I think it is only fair to have one for Ethan too. That boy has been so occupied with school, homework, co-coriculum and more that I hardly have time to speak to him on weekdays  Just a blink of an eye, Ethan is already 9 going to be 10 this year. He is growing up fast before my very eyes so I better take more pictures […]

Cook with Ayden: Ayam Satay Buah Keras

A couple of weeks ago my mom and I did a live Peranakan cooking demo at The Straits Hotel and Suites, Melaka. One of the dish we cooked is Ayam Satay Buah Keras. Today, Ayden cooked the same dish at home but instead of using the wok, he used the rice cooker because he is too young to be handling a wok and a gas stove. If you wish to try cooking this dish, do […]

Popular Chinese New Year Snack : Chicken Floss Roll

Chicken Floss Roll is one of the more popular Chinese New Year snack around. It is extremely addictive that once you start, you’ll find it difficult to stop eating them. It is also expensive to buy them so I decided to resume making them this year. I used to make this every year before I have kids. The boys are pretty okay on their own these days so I can sneak some time making one […]

School Holiday Kitchen Project: Making Popcorn

The kids are getting a little bored at home. We are supposed to go to Penang on Sunday but Ayden woke up feverish. I called up the resort and as expected the reservation department insisted to charge us one night cancellation fee. It is understandable as that is their standard procedure. However, after learning about Ayden, they transferred my call to their Manager on Duty and thankfully, he was kind enough to tell me to […]

Quick and Easy Egg Mayo Sandwich

Ethan’s class is now in the morning session. I have successfully been waking up early at 5am for 3 days to prepare his snack box but overslept today so he ended up bringing bread and cereals to school. He is happy though as he is able to share the cereals with his friends.  Not only do I have to prepare his snack box, I also prepare tea break now that he is at home in the […]

Ginkgo Barley with Bean Curd Sheet Recipe

I love drinking sweet desserts. Apart from my favourite red bean with black glutinous rice dessert, my another all-time favourite is my mom’s Ginkgo Barley with Bean Curd Sheet. I’ve never boiled this myself because I’m just too lazy to shell and remove the ginkgo core. Here’s how my mom makes it: Ginkgo Barley with Bean Curd Sheet Ingredients: Barley Shelled Ginkgo with core removed. Bean Curd Sheet / Fu Chok. Make sure it’s the […]

Spicy Mushroom Tapas Recipe

I have a new hobby lately – watching Ayam Brand’s The Student Series online. The Student Series revolves around Will (played by Will Quah) a typical male student; clumsy and a complete disaster in the kitchen. His sister, Sarah (played by Aishah Sinclair) is the opposite. She knows her way around the kitchen and loves to cook. Since Will is leaving for his studies to Australia soon, he is concerned that he will miss Malaysian […]

Sambal Petai Ikan Bilis Recipe

When I was younger, I already love to eat petai. My second sister however is not a fan of it. I remembered taking a bite of the petai from my mother’s sambal and gave out a loud “HAH” in front of my sis so she could smell my breath! I remembered how pissed she was! LoL! Those were the good ol’ days.. Though I love sambal especially with petai in it, I’ve never tried dishing […]

Stir Fried Green Beans in Belacan (Shrimp Paste) Recipe

My mother fries wicked ‘bawang belacan’ veges such as Pucuk Ubi Bawang Belacan and Ladies Finger (Okra) Bawang Belacan. She calls it bawang belacan as the ingredients calls for shallots (bawang), shrimp paste (belacan) and also chili.  When Ethan was younger, he does not take spicy food hence all the veges are stir fried with only garlic or with the added oyster sauce. Now that he is turning 6 in 3 months time, he is […]

Delicious Fried Instant Noodles Recipe

I’m a very happy woman today. Darling left to work with a smile on his face saying he had a delicious breakfast, better than those he gets from the Mamak stall! Oh me, oh my! It’s not everyday I get such a compliment from him so you can imagine me floating in the air smiling like a silly little girl. I’m so happy that I’m blogging this out immediately! LoL! I ‘accidentally’ woke up a […]

Sweet and Sour Prawn Recipe

I have more time to spare in the kitchen now that Ethan is attending kindergarten. Ethan loves sweet and sour fish while Darling loves sweet and sour crab but I’ve never tried cooking sweet and sour prawns before until several days ago. This is the outcome. Very yummy with lots of gravy to drench the rice. Ethan and I love our rice to be wet so I deliberately cook up extra gravy. Sweet and Sour […]

Afro Head Steamed Broccoli & Fishball

I had planned to make this afro head steamed broccoli and fishball for lunch today. It took me ten minutes to get that ONE afro head done. I was expecting a guest for lunch so I knew I won’t be able to get this ready on time. I stir-fried them instead >_< Nevertheless, here’s the recipe of what I intended to make: Ingredients: Fishballs Broccoli Carrot, cut into 1cm thin sharp pieces Corn flour Oyster […]

Pumpkin Raisin Salad Recipe

It has been a hectic week for us with the students doing their final preparations for the UPSR next week but I still managed to slot in several home-cooked dishes for dinner. Quick and nutritious is my motto so here’s the ever so nutritious pumpkin raisin salad I whipped out in a jiffy. Pumpkin is rich in fat soluble vitamins and is also a good source of dietary fiber.  I added carrots because I try […]

Cute bread cutter

I posted the above picture in my Craft FB Page the other day and several readers asked me where I got those cute cookie cutters. It is not a cookie cutter actually. It is an egg mold. I blogged about the cute eggs before. Read it here. I’m sure you have seen this egg mold before? If you don’t, it’s time for you to go to Daiso as I got mine from there. Two for […]

Butter Toast (Roti Bakar)

I made this for Ethan’s snack today. I call this roti bakar ‘Butter Toast’ as what I did was spread butter on bread and toast it on a hot pan. Sprinkled some sugar on top and yummeh out came the most unhealthy snack ever!! It’s not the same as toasting plain bread in a toaster and spreading butter after it tossed out of the toaster. I don’t like that. I like toasting buttered bread on […]
