1Utama School Holiday Activity – Let’s Jungle Up

This school holidays, 1 Utama has (in their own words) a super cool indoor jungle filled with exciting water games and adrenaline-pumping fun-tivities!

We were there last weekend and the crowd was massive.

It is stated the activity is only open for children aged 5 till 12 years old with One Card Members gets to play for free.

We proceeded to register the boys only to be told One Card entitles only ONE kid so we were told to pick only one kid or we can register for One Card Kids+ for both the boys to participate in this fun activities.

We got the boys’ One Card Kids+ card ready in less than 30 minutes but because the crowd was unbelievable huge, we decided to come again some other day, preferably on a weekday.

Fast forward, we are here again on a week day morning yet the crowd is no where lesser. Queues are already forming like a snake circling the event area.

I brought the boys to the registration booth but this time, Ayden was prohibited from participating because he is not yet 5 years old. He is actually 5 by year but by month he will only turn 5 in August. I saw another girl smaller sized than Ayden participating in the activities so I asked them if they’ll allow Ayden to do so too but they insisted Ayden needs to have celebrated his 5th birthday in order to participate.

In the end, only Ethan was given this sheet of activity ‘passport’ for him to participate in all the activities.

Since the queues were extremely long for most of the activities with only the Hoverboard Go Kart has the least number of people queuing, I told Ethan to ride on that first. I waited nearby with Ayden while Ethan queued alone.

But when he was queuing, again, he was asked for his age. He answered 11 but they did not believe him. He is 11 by year but will only officially turn 11 in July. They demanded for him to produce his MyKid as they said the minimum age for the Hoverboard Go Kart is 11.

I asked them if it makes any difference if he is 10Y8M or 11Y0M and they said YES as only kids who is officially 11 years old are allowed to ride. Okay, so I showed them Ethan’s MyKid which obviously stated his date of birth which means he is 10Y8M and guess what? The operator just took a look at it and instructed Ethan to get back in line while at the same time turning more 10 year olds who will be turning 11 this year away.

Are the operators CONFUSED or DELIBERATELY making it difficult for us?

Ethan’s only ride for this Jungle-Up event as he saw little Ayden was unhappy to be left out and had to sit at the side to wait for him.

Overall, I feel that this event is too rigid on the age limit.

Firstly, Ayden wasn’t allowed to participate because he will only turn 5 in August. There is an activity that involves the use of TRICYCLE and they let 9 years old kids ride on that yet little children like Ayden was barred from joining. Why on Earth would a nine year old wants to ride on a tricycle puzzles me big time.

Secondly, even after getting through the registration process and being given the activity passport, there is again an age restriction to the activities such as the Hoverboard Go Kart.

I did not bother to check on the age limit for the rest of the activities as I find this event very badly organised and is such a waste of time for us with the queuing to only be told that the kids are not allowed for so and so activity yet they did not bother to put a remark on the activity passport to let it make known to us before queuing.

1 Utama, is this your first time organizing such an event?!

Wowwww!!!! So much fun! So many people!!!

So messy kah? I guess their main objective is to draw the crowd = shoppers and as far as that goes, it was a huge success…never mind how many kids’ hearts they broke. Tsk! Tsk!

I think it would be better to judge the ability of each child individually if the child is going to reach the age stated in the same year but then it could be a legal thing. They should have activities for younger children too. So caring of Ethan to be so considerate of Ayden.

I was first attracted to this event but after think further of the crowd, ok, forget it!
