The Adventures of Monkey King – The Golden Hooped Rod at Genting International Showroom
Our main purpose going up to Resorts World Genting over the weekend was to catch The Adventures of Monkey King – The Golden Hooped Rod at Genting International Showroom.
Every year during the school holidays, Resorts World Genting will bring something new and different and this year it is the Nanjing Acrobatic Troupe with their magical 3D theatre performance.
An exhilarating combination of heart-stopping live acrobatic and 3D visual effects, The Golden Hooped Rod is a theatrical performance inspired by a main character from the popular folktale “Journey to the West”.
The dazzling stage production is a refreshing interpretation of the renowned Monkey King saga, a mythological figure in Journey to the West, one of the most popular classical novels in China combined with astounding visual feast created by the 3D special effects used.
The story tells of the antagonist Chi Yu, a sea demon with a penchant for evil. To fulfill his selfish ambitions, Chi Yu must destroy the Golden Rod. Sun Wukong, a monkey born with supernatural powers, must protect the Golden Rod from the evil sea demon Chi Yu.
A battle ensues between Chi Yu and Sun Wukong. Who will win?
Here are some of the pictures I took during the performance. Flash photography is not allowed during the performance and video recording is strictly not allowed.
It was our first time catching a theatre show with special 3D visual effects and we were thoroughly impressed!
Ayden stood anxiously at the edge of his seat throughout the show (don’t worry, the seat behind him was empty so he wasn’t blocking anyone). They really impressed him and he loves it very much.
The cast also made surprise appearances among the crowd from time to time so don’t be startled if a monkey suddenly tapped on your shoulder
Group picture with the cast at the end of the performance.
The Golden Hooped Rod is performed by the award winning Nanjing Acrobatics Troupe founded in 1957.

I believe most children would love to watch this performance. Wow! you all managed to get a photo with all the cast.
Yes. The casts are all quite visibly tired after that outstanding performance but they still oblige for a photo session with guests.
An epic Chinese tale. I bet kids would enjoy the show.
Hi. Do you think toddlers will get frightened by this show? Would it be suitable for 15 months toddler? Thanks
Hi Charlene,
My youngest boy is 4 yet he wasn’t at all afraid. He enjoyed it a lot thanks to the 3D effects and great performance. The only thing that startled him was the fire that comes out during the fight scene but that was very quick, it was gone within seconds.
