Cook with Ayden: Braised Peanut Chinese Style Recipe

The boys love the braised peanut served as appetisers at Chinese restaurants. They just can’t get enough of it as those peanuts are often served in small portions.

Today, we are going to try cooking this dish ourselves so they can eat as much as they want and fart the whole night long.

We never know it is extremely easy to cook this dish… until today

Ingredients:

300gm peanuts (soaked overnight)
350ml water
1/2 stick cinnamon
1/2 star anise
2 clove
1 tsp 5 spice powder
1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
2 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt

Method:

Combine all ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil.
Let it simmer and cook for 5-6 hours until the peanuts are soft.

Alternatively, you may use a pressure cooker to cut short the cooking hours.

  1. Combine all ingredients in the pot.
  2. Close the lid.
  3. Set the valve to “SEAL”
  4. Select ‘Pressure Cook’
  5. Select ‘STEAM’
  6. Press ‘Cooking Time’
  7. Set KPT to 59 minutes
  8. Press START
  9. Once done, keep warm until time to serve

Let Little Chef Ayden show you how he cook this super simple Braised Peanut dish using our Philips-All-in-One multi cooker.

Oooo…I love his chef hat!!! My girl loves these peanuts but she can’t eat them now because of the soy sauce. Maybe I can substitute it with the gluten-free ones.

A friend presented the chef hat and apron to Ayden. He bought it online. I find it very fitting and cute :D

I love braised peanuts. My whole family actually. Soft and salty. Yummy. Not every restaurants serve this over here.

Thank you Lil Chef Ayden for sharing the recipe.

Here in the Klang Valley, these braised peanuts are as common as rice in Chinese restaurants. You’ll see it even if you don’t want it. Haha.

I love these soft flavorful peanuts too!

We all do, don’t we? :D

I absolutely adore braised peanuts. The first I had them ever was in a Chinese restaurant in KL.

Nice! You know what? I shared this with some European counterparts and to my surprise, they told me in London, the Chinese restaurants there don’t serve these braised nuts. But some do argue that if you request for it, you’ll actually get it so I’m not sure coz the last time I was in London, I did not dine in a Chinese restaurant.

Wah, Chef Ayden stood on the counter top to stir the peanut in the pot!!

    • //

No, no, no, no. He is not on the counter top. He is standing on a chair.

      • //

In Photo 1, Ayden looks like standing on the counter top behind the pot!

He is so handsome in that Chef’s Hat!
I love to eat this nuts and didn’t know it is so easy to make. Thank you
