Robi – The Trilingual Humanoid Robot
Children today are exposed to robotics very early in their lives. Robots are aplenty amongst us. Even vacuum cleaners are robots these days.
Besides these robots that children encounter every day, there are countless courses easily available for kids to learn the basics of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and computer science among others.
Ethan loves robotics. He has shown a keen interest in robots from a very young age so we let him explore further by signing him up for camps during the holidays.
It would be awesome if we can get him something to build on ordinary days instead of just waiting for holiday camps. This is where Robi got our interest.
Robi, created by world’s leading robotics scientists, Professor Takahashi is an interactive trilingual robotic companion that speaks Manglish is a fusion of sophisticated design and advanced Japanese technology that was designed to provide interactive companionship with the entire family.
Every week, we get to assemble new parts of Robi that comes in the Robi Weekly Magazine.
This magazine is available at 7-Eleven, Borders, Cold Storage, Hamleys, Jasons Food Hall, Kinokuniya, Mercato, MPH, myNEWS.com, Pansing, Popular, RadioShack, Times, WHSmith and FPX payment (through website).
The picture instructions make assembling a breeze.
Ethan can do it with minimal assistant. It is exciting to see Robi’s features slowly taking place and becomes functional.
Robi’s full assembly takes some time (70 issues) but we get to experience what his upper half can do in as short as 8 issues into the magazine.
Besides assembling Robi, Ethan loves reading the many educational articles focused on electronics and robotics in the magazine.
By the 6th issue we are already dealing with the Test Board and witnessing Robi’s first movement – moving his head from side to side.
By the 7th issue, Robi is already looking dashingly handsome (as shown above).
When completed, Robi will be 34 cm in height and weighs approximately 1kg.
Little Ayden got excited seeing Robi moving his head and self-declared that Robi is now HIS best friend! LoL.
It was fun spending time with the boys while big brother assembled Robi. Ayden kept himself occupied playing with the miniature Robi that came complimentary in the 1st issue of the magazine.
We haven’t got hold of all 70 issues hence our Robi is not complete… yet.
We can’t wait to see the completed Robi and talk to him as we heard Robi has a sophisticated speech recognition board programmed to understand different phrases and reply appropriately.
Robi can also keep me company during my evening exercise as he can do push-ups!
Our family is really excited upon discovering that we CAN meet Robi as this popular robot will be making its way to Malaysia next month.
The launch event and roadshow will take place in One Utama Shopping Centre (High Street) on March 10 – 12, 2017.
The event will be attended by Robi’s creator, Professor Tomotaka Takahashi and Hajime ‘Jimmy’ Murano, the Chief Executive Officer & President of DeAgostini Asia.
Join us and visit the roadshow at One Utama to get to know and play with some completed Robi’s!
There will also be a daily ‘Robi Rave’, dance performance featuring 100 Robi robots!
