Wellcome Seafood Restaurant, Sunway Mentari Park
Wellcome Seafood Restaurant has been around for some time in Sunway Mentari Park. Situated opposite BMS Organic and next to Mr DIY, it has recently been taken over by a new chef and been given a new facelift.
The restaurant spots a bright red signboard against an equally bright yellow building making it such a breeze to find. We were there last Sunday to try out the dishes by the new chef Alvin Chin.
Decors are kept to the minimum in this restaurant giving it a spacious and clean feel. You can opt to dine on the ground or upper level.
There is an aquarium on the ground floor housing their live sea creatures. Some of them are going to be our lunch in a while
This restaurant is fully air-conditioned on both levels.
We dined in one of their two private rooms that afternoon. It is better decorated with wallpaper covering the bare walls, sheer curtain to shade the room yet give in enough sunlight and a beautiful lamp that caught the kids’ attention.
Now let’s take a look at what we ate. The food you are about to see is shared among the 12 of us – 9 adults with 3 kids.
Each of us had this Pan Seared Oyster in Supreme Soy Sauce each (RM9.80/piece)
A delightfully fresh tasting oyster within a crispy light crust, it is absolutely delicious. Our lunch is off to a great start!
Next on the table is this Steamed Talapia with Fermented Chili sauce. Yes, it is spicy but not as extreme as it looked. The fermented chili sauce gives this fish a very refreshing taste. It is unlike any others I have eaten. I love that the fish is flooded with the chili sauce so that I can flood my white rice with it too. When inquired, the chef explained that the chili is minced and mix with some ‘secret’ ingredients and let to be fermented for about two weeks before being used.
Chef’s Specialty Yam Fried Rice (RM20)
This fried rice with rice puff skirting, topped with cubed yam and ebiko is very tasty. The kids enjoyed every spoonful of it.
Deep Fried Spare Ribs (RM9.00)
The deep fried boneless spare ribs was served individually and honestly speaking, this alone is actually enough for my lunch. It’s like going western and having pork chop for lunch. I heard that these spare ribs are braised for hours and then deep-fried so they’re super crisp and goes so well with the creamy chili sauce that is explosively spicy!
Braised Homemade Beancurd with Sliced Crystal Prawn (RM60)
The homemade tofu was smooth and wobbly. The gravy goes well with white steamed rice. The sliced prawns make it easy to eat especially when dining with kids. We enjoyed the homemade tofu very much, even more than the prawns themselves. Oh my!
Fried Spinach with Egg and Crab Meat in Claypot (RM20)
The spinach is cooked till soft and left warm in a claypot with lots of gravy and huge chunks of crab meat. A raw egg is then broken onto the spinach. We just need to give a little stir before serving.
Fried Ostrich with Special Sauce (RM35)
I don’t eat ostrich on a regular basis. Tell me who does. LoL. When this was served, we all had a good laugh trying to interpret the Chinese name into English. A friend mentioned that this is not a deer. Another friend said it has a long neck to which another friend quickly exclaimed, “A GIRAFFE!” Hahaha! Imagine if we were eating a giraffe >_<
Anyway, this is only my second time eating ostrich meat. The first was quite some time ago and I wonder why because ostrich meat is actually very nice. Low in fat, high in protein, it is not at all tough or chewy. The combination of basil leaf and pickled carrot makes this a very appetizing dish. I think I ate this the most as it was sitting nicely in front of me on the Lazy Susan turntable tray.
Stuffed Minced Pork Beancurd (RM14)
Smooth tofu with flavourful minced pork filling, this dish is specially ordered for the kids.
Stir-fried 2 types Kailan (RM20)
Two varieties of cooking. One with the stem and leaf stir-fried while another uses thinly sliced leaf deep-fried in hot oil till crisp; seasoned and used as garnish.
This Sweet and Sour Chili Crab is on a promotional price of RM28 for two crabs for the whole month of September.

Yeah yeah, the food is lovely and all. I like ostrich meat because it is exotic. Used to be able to find it more commonly in the UK last time.
But what really bugs me is “shared among the 12 of us – 8 adults with 3 kids”… and 1 more what? Something unseen? OMG!?
Lol! Wrong calculation la. Hahahahahaha! 9 adults plus 3 kids. One arrived a bit later hence the confusion… Ish. I go edit now >_<
This is a food haven.
Ostrich! I never taste the meat before.
I love the fried spare ribs as well as the chili sauce, very addictive~
I have not eaten ostrich meat before.
