Art & Craft: Sponge Owl
Ethan came home from school one day showing me the instruction for his school craft project.
I took a look at it and asked him what is that supposed to be. He said that is an owl. We got into a heated argument as I refused to believe that is how an owl is supposed to look like but he insisted it is an owl.
I don’t read chinese so I don’t know if Ethan has mistaken or whoever came out with that ‘owl’ has obviously never seen an owl before. Ethan then reluctantly said maybe it is a bear to which I started to argue again that it definitely does not look like a bear neither! I told Ethan that no way I will allow him to submit such a horrible looking creature for his craft work. I am particular when it comes to arts and crafts
Ethan then asked me what should he do. Immediately I took out all my crafting materials and told him to google for a picture of an owl. He selected one picture and I told him to take note of the main features of that owl. From there, I guided him on how to translate that picture into his craft work.
After about an hour or so, he completed his owl.
I do believe this is a more decent owl, isn’t it? But Ethan was reluctant to submit this as he fears being different. He said this doesn’t look like what is in the instruction at all. I explained to him that art is subjective and every one of us interprets art differently. After what seems like the longest lecture in the world, he finally agreed to submit this little green owl.
To his delight, his teacher actually praised him for his owl. He came home happy and told me about it. That is the problem with children these days. They always doubt their parents and believe their teachers 100%. When I told him his owl is nice, he was doubtful and was even afraid to submit it but when his teacher gave a special mention for his owl, he became so happy and proudly announced it to me
Kids always agonises over what teacher would think rather than their parents. Lol
That’s a pretty cute owl!
Good to know his teacher praised him. :)
The teacher is always right! Hehehehehehe!!!!
