Glutinous Rice Dumpling @ Tao Chinese Cuisine
This month of June, InterContinental Kuala Lumpur hotel’s award winning signature Chinese restaurant Tao Chinese Cuisine commemorates the Dragon Boat Festival with five eclectic glutinous rice dumpling selections and we are honoured to be invited to preview these delicacies.
Priced at RM14.00 nett for mini rice dumpling duo and RM22.00 nett onwards for traditional rice dumpling selections, these dumplings are available from 30 May to 9 June 2016.
Handmade fresh daily by master dim sum chef Lo Tian Sion who helms over two decades of experience, the accomplished chef devoutly recommends this season’s highlights – the abalone sea treasure rice dumpling, spicy Nyonya rice dumpling with shrimp and diced chicken, and the mini rice dumpling with preserved winter melon, lotus seed and dried mango.
The crowd’s favourite is the abalone sea treasure rice dumpling (RM72.80 nett/piece)
Chef Lo includes the five spices powder as opposed to the customary ‘ginger powder’, giving it a zest of flavours.
The luxurious treasure includes the generously portioned sea cucumber.
The Nyonya rice dumpling is given a twist with Chef Lo’s Spicy Nyonya rice dumpling with shrimp and diced chicken (RM24.80 nett/piece)
With the classic Nyonya rice dumpling in mind, Chef Lo desires to create something extra ordinary hence the inclusion of dried shrimp paste and dried chili, alongside the homemade Nyonya sauce giving this rice dumpling the savoury pleasures that is full-flavoured, spicy and truly inviting.
For those who prefer a healthier option with hints of sweetness, the mini rice dumpling with preserved winter melon, lotus seeds and dried sweet mango is an excellent choice.
This is the first time I have seen such beautiful and colourful rice dumpling.
Avid health enthusiast will be glad to know that the ingredients include refreshing fruits such as strawberries, dried sweet mango, raisins and preserved winter melon. This mini rice dumpling comes in a set of two pieces, priced at RM 14.00 nett.
Besides the 3 highlights, there are also the more traditional savours of rice dumpling such as dried oyster with braised peanut (RM22.00 nett/piece).
The traditional mini red bean paste (RM14.00 nett for two pieces)

This hotel used to be Nikko hotel? Next to Citibank, Jln Ampang? I thought normal bak chang uses five spices powder and not ginger powder. The mini mango bak chang sounds interesting. Thanks to you, your sons get to eat all the luxury food since young. Great mommy!
You know hotels very well. Yes, this was previously hotel Nikko.
Dijamin sampai hari esok! :D
Chang!!! I never tasted dumpling in a hotel before. Haha. Must be good as prepared by the chef.
I love dumpling, I can eat this 3 meals a day if it is not that fattening >_<
