The Story of My Fried Chicken

Let me tell you a little story. I usually cook chicken stew because it is one of the easiest meal to prepare. It also serves as a one pot dish as there are vegetables in it too. I have been alternating chicken stew and fried fish for the past months that the boys can tell today is chicken stew day and tomorrow they’ll know they will get fried fish. They love both the chicken stew and fried fish with golden garlic chunks on it so there is no complaining from their side.

But I wanted to surprise them one day. Yesterday, I decided to fry chicken for them and I did.
Ayam Goreng

I bought ready mix flour for my fried chicken. I’m not sure what those white specks are but these are yums!

Now, here is where my story begins. It takes me less than 15 minutes to cook chicken stew because I can leave it stewing on its own on the stove while I mind my own things but to fry chicken, I will have to stand in front of the wok for hours! That means I will need the elder brother Ethan to look after Ayden and pray hard that they don’t fight and throw each other out of the house. Frying fish doesn’t take as long neither.

So, after hours slaving in front of the hot wok for these fabulous fried chicken (though they don’t look as good in photo), I was very excited to serve my THREE boys dinner.

What happened was, the Daddy casually took a piece of chicken, remove the skin and pass it to Ethan. Ethan said he wants the chicken entirely with the skin intact but the Daddy said, “NO, it is very hot these days and eating it like that is heaty”. He gave Ethan a small piece of crunchy skin to eat though.

OK.

Then, when it comes to the Daddy’s turn, he too removed the skin before eating the chicken. Now, you tell me, why would I slave in the hot kitchen for hours if they are all gonna dispose the crunchy skin and eat only the meat? Grrr… I should have known because this is how the Daddy eats his KFC too.

FINE. Chicken stew and fried fish for the rest of the year for you guys. Maybe one day I’ll just bake bread and you boys can have just ROTI for dinner! Hmph! >_<

My missus would bring the chicken home from the market and remove ALL the skin, leaving it looking so miserable, so naked. I love the skin!!! Unfortunately, there is none for me to enjoy in the house. Sobssssss!!!!!

    • //

Hahaha. She wants you to eat healthy lah. Appreciate that :P

  • //

Hahah…this is funny. No skin means less heaty and lower cholesterol :D I am sure the fried chicken still taste really yummy without the skin. Now you are making me hungry.

    • //

Yes it still taste yummy but I won’t fry this again la eventhough I still have the flour mix. What do I do with it now? Sigh..

  • //

OMG!!! I feel you… but… but but… wahahahhahaha!!!! This is too funny!!

    • //

      >_< Sigh......

  • //

Hahaha..nowadays big E is the one who remove the crispy chicken skin. Reminded me as well not to eat the crispy skin. But she is ok with drummet. I don’t fried chicken at home too, fish occasionally since now I can get cheap and fresh cut fish from Super 7. hehe

    • //

Big E very health concious eh now? Good girl. I have never been to Super 7. Must make a trip there one of these days.

  • //

I also removed the skin but sometimes cannot tahan , just bite on it la… After all the crunchy skin is all that matters !!

    • //

You can afford to eat the skin lah. Always exercising, won’t get fat.

  • //

Same with Kenny, he will remove the skin (the best part of fried chicken) even for KFC! So wasted!
PS: this also explain the size body of me & Kenny ~>_<~

    • //

Hahahahahahahaha! Ooops. Shouldn’t laugh so loud. Sorry :P

Same lah with William. Both of them oso so slim. Chis…

  • //

Wahaha. Mummy is merajuk loh. Yaloh, what is the purpose of eating fried chicken if you are not eating the crispy skin. Those skin is the most sinful and tastier of all.

Maybe you can try other cooking method like braised chicken, grilled chicken, steamed chicken. They are less hassle and lesser cooking time.

    • //

Nah, I’ll just let them eat Chicken Stew until they jelak :P

  • //

Hahaha!! Wah Daddy so healthy! Mom not so healthy. But then once in a while it’s OK to have those fried chicken with skin still intact. I love them too! :)

    • //

I don’t eat KFC skin too. But the one I fry myself I eat coz all my hardwork in it mah. Haha. Silly isn’t it?

  • //

    HAHAHAHAHAH

That is a funny story. To be honest, I nowadays a bit scared of the skin too. Not coz of heaty or what, I just very jelak with the taste. I don’t mind eating 1 piece but more than that I’ll start to feel nauseous. I don’t think I can even finish one skin as per your fried chicken picture. I used to love the skin as a kid though, not sure why I don’t quite like the skin now.

I’m just talking about fried chicken skin though, I’ll happily eat steamed chicken skin (like herbal chicken drumsticks). It’s not as jelak, if you get what I mean.

Oh well, at least you can have the chicken with skin on. :)

    • //

Ooooh YES! I love herbal chicken drumsticks. But that one I willingly strip the skin off coz not I cook wan. Hahaha.

  • //

Hahaha, your story is very funny leh. I also ask myself why I buy fried chicken from KFC to eat when I will remove all the skins and just eat the white meat, hahaha!

Ya, next time no need to fry chickens for your boys. Just stew chicken will do.

    • //

People around us also always complain when they see us eating KFC without the skin. I don’t eat KFC skin too but when I fry my own chicken, I eat coz I know how difficult it is to fry it! LoL!

  • //

I feel for u in term of all efforts n they did not appreciate it. But for fried chicken It was me who removed the skin, my anaks n hubby will eat it as whole.
