Qing Palace Chinese Restaurant (满殿中菜馆) @ Pulai Springs Resort
During our 4D/3N stay in Pulai Springs Resort, we took our dinners at their award winning Qing Palace Chinese Restaurant except for one night when we returned from Singapore late and ate at Cinta Terrace instead.
The award winning Qing Palace Chinese Restaurant features exquisite interiors that echo the grandness of an ancient imperial dining hall.
Qing Palace, Pulai Pavillion
Decorated with genuine Oriental antique furnishing, paintings, carvings and even silk lanterns, this restaurant is famed for its Szechuan cuisine.
This restaurant can fit 200 persons inside. A 24-person private dining room is available for more intimate gatherings.
Our 4D/3N stay in Pulai Springs was nicely planned to fit 3 theme parks exploration with ONE theme park each day so we were all tired by the end of the day. It’s great that there is this restaurant here in the resort itself so we did not need to drag the kids out far for dinner.
This restaurant is also popular among golfers so it is best to make prior reservation to avoid being disappointed as it can get really crowded come lunch and dinner time.
Here are the combination of food we had for two nights.
Szechuan Hot and Sour Soup (Medium / 5-7 pax – RM42)
This chef’s signature hot and sour soup is easily my favourite due to the vinegary part. Tremendously appetising and soothing, it contains wood ear fungus, bamboo shoots, spring onions and tofu with just the right consistency.
While we had the hot and sour soup, the kids had Double-boiled fish fillet soup with apple (RM17 per portion) as we were afraid the hot and sour soup might be a tad too hot for them to handle but my fear was unfounded as Ethan actually love the hot and sour soup.
Ayden loves the naturally sweet (from the apple) double-boiled fish fillet soup and cleared the entire bowl effortlessly.
Stewed Mutton with Dried Soya Hainan Style (Large – RM82)
This rich, fragrant stew is simmered in a claypot until the mutton turns tender and fall off the bones easily. Black fungus and dried soya sheets compliment this dish perfectly.
Another signature dish, the Szechuan Camphor and Tea Smoked Duck (RM94) served with fried mantou is highly recommended. Darling and I are usually not a fan of duck meat as it usually has a stronger fowl odor than chicken meat but the ones we had here was surprisingly perfect without any unpleasant smell. The meat is tender and not at all chewy. Eaten sandwiched between the fried mantou is simply satisfying.
We had the curry fish on the first day and steamed fish on the second. Fish are priced according to market price per 100gm.
Both the curry gravy and sauce from the steamed fish go really well with our bowl of fluffy white rice. Personally I prefer the curry fish as it has more oomph to it. I am a Nyonya after all :P
Sauteed Prawn with Dried Chilies and Cashew Nuts (Medium – RM50)
This is also highly recommended. The cashew nuts give this dish a crunchy edge to it.
Sauteed Prawn with Salted Egg Yolk (Medium – RM80)
With all the craziness of salted egg yolk, this dish is a must-have. The fried prawns itself is already delicious and aromatic. Coated with salted egg yolk makes it perfect!
Crispy Duck Skin with Mango Salad (Large – RM116)
It is essential that food looks good as well as taste terrific. The richness of duck with a light salad gives this beautiful crispy dish a brilliant combination.
Fried French Beans with Minced Chicken (RM32)
This is Ethan’s favourite vegetable dish. The great flavor that comes with stir-frying the French beans with minced chicken makes this a wholesome and tasty dish.
Fried Mixed Vegetable with Assam Paste (Medium – RM26)
This fried mixed vegetable with assam paste is very appetizing. Great to go with our white rice but I kept eating them on its own for maximum satisfaction.
Spinach with Minced Garlic (Medium – RM26)
It’s an easy side dish for our table as everyone loves spinach and the one we had here is topped with dried shrimps giving it an extra oomph.
As for desserts, they have this sample display of the desserts available and we’ll just take our pick from there to order.
‘Mua Ji’ Peanut Ball (RM4.50 per person)
‘Oni’ Yam Pudding (RM5.50)
Chilled Pineapple with Sea Coconut (RM18)
Chilled Guiling Herbal Jelly (RM5.50)
The ‘oni’ yam pudding and ‘mua ji’ are their signature desserts. They are served warm so do allow them to cool a little before digging in. For cool desserts, the refreshing chilled mango pudding, guiling herbal jelly and pineapple with sea coconut are great choices.
They also have Chinese New Year promotions with the prices of Yee Sang starting from RM68. Choose from Yee Sang with Salmon, Yee Sang with Smoked Duck and Yee Sang with Sea Asparagus. Available from 1 to 28 February 2016 for lunch and dinner.
