Chinese New Year Menu @ PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur

Count our blessings as we are invited yet again to preview the Chinese New Year Lou Sang menu this evening at Si Chuan Dou Hua, PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur.

Swinging to a prosperous new year, Si Chuan Dou Hua is ushering the Year of the Monkey with eight set menus that have been delicately created to cater to every taste bud.

PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur even invited the God of Prosperity to the CNY preview :D

According to the Chinese zodiac, people born in the Year of the Monkey are intelligent and have a magnetic personality and mischievous. That describes the atmosphere of our dinner this evening. It was lively and full of positive energy from the food to the company I was with.

Everything looks promising from the start; with the appearance of God of Prosperity to the tidbits on the table before the amazing food was served.

I super love this crunchy and savoury anchovies. I just can’t stop munching on them.

These nuts are the boys’ favourite. The wasabi ones are spicy yet both Ethan and Ayden kept eating them.

This is our menu for the evening. We were privileged to sample their RM1988 set menu. Ayden is still seen munching on nuts there :)

Selections of Yee Sang includes Vegetarian Goose Yee Sang, Tropical Fruits Yee Sang, Soft Shell Crab Yee Sang, Salmon Yee Sang, Jellyfish Yee Sang, Abalone Yee Sang, Pacific Clam Yee Sang and Shark’s Fin Yee Sang served with specially concocted sauces such as Sour Plum enhanced with a fruity flavour, Spicy Plum Sauce with Mango or the traditional Sour Plum Sauce.

Priced from RM68nett (half portion) and RM118nett (full portion) onwards, the Yee Sang dishes are available for dine-in or take-away.

Our bountiful dinner starts with Prosperity Sliced Abalone Yee Sang.

Lousang

It is the most special Lou Sang we have ever had as the God of Prosperity decided to join us in tossing for good health, wealth and happiness in the year to come.

My gorgeous plate of fruity yee sang with sliced abalone. Yes, fruity as the yee sang here not only uses vegetables but fruits too in their salad.

Double-boiled Shark’s Fin Soup with Dried Scallop, Sea Cucumber, Bamboo Piths and Ginseng

The double-boiled soup with ginseng exudes such grandeur with the generous presence of sea cucumber, dried scallop and bamboo piths to compliment the shark fin. The golden soup is clear yet tasty and is very nutritious as sea cucumber is highly sought after for its healing and beauty properties.

As an alternative to the shark fin soup, they also offer Braised Eight Treassure Soup.

The thick Eight Treassure Soup is Ayden’s favourite. Generous amount of shredded crabmeat, shrimps, scallops and more can be seen swimming in the delicous thick broth.

Steamed Tiger Garoupa with Superior Soya Sauce

Fish served whole with head and tail intact is a must for any Chinese New Year reunion meal. It symbolises having surplus at the end of the year and will be making more in the year to come.

A properly steamed fish is also seen as a benchmark for chefs. A perfectly steamed fish has flesh that is just cooked at the bone, never dry.

The steamed fish is tender, silky and moist; simply perfect!

Steamed Village Chicken with Chinese Herb

The enticing aroma of the herbs filled the air before this dish was served before us. The combination of herbs and the tender chicken are well balanced. I loved slurping on the herbal essense too.

Stir-fried Large Prawn with Superior King Sauce

This dish is just perfect. Firstly, the prawns are shelled so we did not need to mess up our fingers. It is too easy to just pop them into our mouth. The sweet sauce makes this very agreeable to everyone that evening; from the kids to the adults, we kept popping them into our mouth :)

Braised Vegetables with Sea Cucumber, Dried Scallop, Sliced Abalone and Dried Oyster

This premium vegetable dish deserves a special mention. Besides the usual broccoli and dried oyster, there are also sliced abalone, dried scallop AND sea cucumber in this lavish dish!

Have I told you the benefits of eating sea cucumber? I can never have enough of them as they are one of the best (though pricey) collagen around.

Fried Rice with Black Mushroom and Smoked Duck

The smoked duck gives this rice dish a distinctly bold flavour. Topped with lotus seeds, this makes a very filling dish.

Chilled Grapefruit Sago

We had this refreshing chilled grapefruit sago with strawberry and pomelo for dessert.

Fried ‘Nian Gao’ with Yam

A CNY reunion meal is not complete without the ‘nian gao’ and I must say that the ones we had tonight are simply delightful.

I’ve tried many versions of this sticky cake but alas, the good ol’ way of layering it with a slice of yam and coating it with batter and deep fried to a golden crunchy crust is still the best.

We had a very enjoyable and pleasant dinner. The God of Prosperity walked around entertaining guests much to our delight.

The God of Prosperity also shares its fortune (gold coin) with us all. Huat ah!

Ayden was also entertained by the God of Prosperity :D

Si Chuan Dou Hua’s EIGHT set menus starts with the set for 2 persons at RM388nett, RM688nett for 4 persons and RM888nett for 6 persons.

A group of 10 persons may opt for 4 set menus priced at RM1388nett, RM1688nett, RM1988nett and RM2188nett. The Vegetarian set is available for the vegetarian palate, priced at RM1288nett for a group of 10 persons. Oh dear! Ethan looks so thin, taller and thinner…and Ayden isn’t as chubby as before either.

    *looks at the prices…faints*

So lucky of you to be invited and review on lovely and sumptuous feast.

That anchovies sure looked crispy. I would prefer braised peanuts than those peanuts.

Abalone yee sang is for me!! ^^

    Happy weekend, my dear.

If only all the restaurants make de-shelled prawns a standard, I would be a very happy man!

What a scrumptious meal! I will go for the Braised Eight Treasure Soup and since sea cucumber is one of my favourite food I will love that vegetable seafood dish. Love the deshelled prawns too but don’t think I will like the sweet sauce. Good that they have a set for 2 pax.
