Ramen Ten @ Jaya 33

Ramen Ten is Singapore’s first and popular Halal Japanese restaurant. I found out about it during my recent trip down south but did not get the chance to dine there due to my limited time in Singapore. They have an outlet in PJ Jaya 33 too so we thought we might as well give it a try.

Ramen Ten is on the ground floor of Jaya 33 and can be easily spotted from the main road.

We were there with a bunch of foodies on a sunny day for a late lunch.

It was a hot afternoon so the first thing we did was to order juices. Coincidentally, our juices were served looking like a beautiful traffic light :)

When we ordered the apple juice, the person who took our order told us that they will add some salt into the apple juice so that it won’t be too sour (just like how people love to have their apple juice with assam boi) but we did not want it that way. We told them to omit the salt and serve us the juice just the way it is without ice. What we did not tell them though is to omit sugar too as our juice was served with added sugar. I prefer my juice to be au naturel.

Note: If you like your juice without added sugar, do inform in advance when placing your order.

First thing first, we ordered fried rice for the boys.

Garlic Fried Rice (RM3.90)

Salmon Fried Rice (RM5.90)

Both the garlic and salmon fried rice are nicely done; savoury yet subtle enough for the kids’ palate.

Highly recommended is their Soft Shell Crab & Salmon Skin Salad (RM23.90). Crispy soft shell crab and salmon skin plus the crisp lettuce and soft boiled Japanese eggs are my absolute favourite. I can come here just to feast on this dish alone.

Ramen Ten Gyoza

Gyoza (RM10.90) makes an excellent appertiser.

It would be better if the fillings are juicier though.

Special Salmon Roll (RM17.90) is Japanese cucumber and tamago rolled in the sushi rice. Topped with fresh salmon, leek, ebiko and drizzled with teriyaki sauce. Each piece fits perfectly for a bite.

Special Beef Maki (RM27.90)

Wrapped with beef, this bite sized maki was on 20% discount when we were there.

Spicy Salmon (RM16.90)

One look at the chilli flakes and I can tell that this will be a challenge but for a person like me who has a high tolerance towards spicy food, this is actually edible. LoL. Someone from our table (I shall not name her :P) took a bite of this and instantly blew out fire like a dragon! Tsk!

Like as if the above spicy salmon was not enough, we also had spicy ramen!

Super Spicy Ramen (RM16.75)

The ramen is smooth. The broth is sharp and fiery hot. I heard there is blended cili padi in there. Again, I can still stomach this. I actually love it! Since no one else in our group could tolerate this bowl of ramen, I had it all by myself.

The Chicken Teriyaki Ramen (RM17.90) hits a better note with the group. I guess everyone love the sticky sweet Teriyaki sauce with their springy ramen.

If you prefer dry ramen, this Honey Chicken Karaage Dry Ramen (RM14.90) is highly recommended because their honey chicken karaage is absolutely delicious. Having said that, you may want to order just the Honey Chicken Karaage (RM11.90) without the ramen if you are looking for a snack and not want to load too much on carbo.

The combo sets in Ramen Ten are reasonably priced.

The Deluxe Combo Set (RM28.90) with salmon sashimi, udon, garlic fried rice, temaki, tempura moriawase, chawanmushi, soup,  green salad and fruit.

Teppan Salmon & Agedashi Tofu Set (RM24.90) will definitely satiate your hunger.

Finally, the boys’ favourite moment – dessert!

We tried all four available flavours for their ice-cream. Vanilla, chocolate and strawberry ice-cream at RM6.25 each while our favourite, the Matcha ice-cream is RM7.30.

I tell you, Ayden is so going to grow up to be an ice-cream taster :)

I wonder if it will ever open an outlet here. My favourite Japanese restaurant in town has closed down. We do have Sushi King but I was so put off by my first visit that I have never gone back again. Most disappointing.
