Mid-Autumn Moon Cakes @ Ee Chinese Cuisine, Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya

It’s that time of the year again to indulge and be treated to tasty mooncakes. Mooncake or Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most celebrated festivals among the Chinese communities throughout the world. Mooncake is a special delicacy that symbolises this special festival. Over the years, this popular delicacy has evolved in terms of flavours and taste, with various ingredients as fillings been created to satisfy the palate of today’s modern tastebuds.

This year, Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya is moving towards the healthier side by preparing a choice of healthier fillings to their mooncakes.

Taking centre stage apart from their healthier filling choices is the heady aroma of Musang King Durian snow skin mooncake.

We had a lot of mooncakes to feast on and my favourite has got to be the Crystal Durian Paste Snow Skin mooncake.

Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya’s Pork Free Mini Snow Skin mooncakes are available in Crystal Purple Sweet Potato Paste, Crystal Durian Paste, Crystal Green Tea Paste with single yolk, Crystal Brown Sugar Ginger Tea Longan Paste and Crystal Custard Paste with Single Yolk.

Crystal Durian Paste Snowskin Mini Mooncake (RM19/per piece)

This premium limited edition mooncake made with fresh Musang King durian pulp brings out the intense flavour of the King of Fruits that is perfect for all DURIAN lovers!

There are several other fillings that caught my attention too such as the Crystal Brown Sugar Ginger Tea Longan Paste Mini Mooncake (RM13/per piece).

Ginger tea reduces nausea, improves blood circulation and stomach performances.

Sweet potato works as an antioxidant and anti-inflammation nutrients to our body.

Green tea is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants which have powerful effects on our body that includes a reduced danger of cancer, improved brain function, fat loss and a number of other incredible benefits.

For the baked skin mooncakes, their new flavour are the Red Dates Lotus Paste and Six Coarse Grains Mooncakes.

Red Dates Lotus Paste Mini Mooncake (RM13/per piece)

Red dates acts as a herbal elixir for youthfulness and is also said to stimulate the production of white blood cells, which improves immunity and decreases the level of cholesterol in our bloodstream which helps to protect the liver.

Six Coarse Grains Lotus Paste Mini Mooncake (RM13/per piece)

Six Coarse Grains consists of 6 types of essential nuts – peanuts, walnuts, almonds, pistachios, sesames and melon seeds. These nuts are rich in Omega 3 and mono-unsaturated fatty acids that lowers cholesterol.

Besides the new flavours, they also have the traditional mooncakes such as Lotus Paste with or without Single or Double Yolk, Jade Custard, Assorted Fruit Nuts and Red Bean Paste.

We (especially Ayden) had a Moonderful time feasting on all the varieties of mooncakes.

Besides mooncakes, we were also treated to a scrumptious dinner of Ee Chinese Cuisine’s signature dishes.

Shark Bone soup 1

EE Deluxe Combination

Beautifully plated and presented, this combo of appetizers is simply amazing to kickstart our dinner. Beneath that creamy baked cheese lies a delicious combination of scallop and avocado. I’m amazed that pairing scallop and avocado brings such fantastic result.

We had this creamy Double Boiled Shark’s Bone Soup with Fish Maw and Prawn Wantan next. I love that it is served on a lighted candle so our soup keeps warm even when we are busy talking and catching up with each other. There was no hurry to finish this soup off before it gets cold.

Lamb cutlet

Oven Baked Lamb Cutlet with Chef Special Sauce

This lamb is my favourite that evening. Baked to a medium rare, it is so tender, juicy and melts in my mouth. Not a tiny bit was left on my plate. I even sucked the bone clean @_@

Prawns

Braised River Prawn with Golden Broth

A huge prawn the size of Ethan’s palm. What fascinated us is the mushroom. We were wondering if it was edible or was it even cooked?

SAMSUNG CSC

We took a closer look and to our surprise, the mushroom is actually a steamed BUN! The idea is simply brilliant! The ‘mushroom’ bun was the talk of the evening. Applaud to the Chef for coming out with this creation. The bun goes well with the golden broth.

Fish head noodles

Vermicelli Soup with Marble Goby Fish Head

Also known as Fish Head Noodles, a popular comfort food on a cold, rainy day. I remember having lots of this during my confinement days. My mother who cares for me during my confinement days learn to dish this out specially for me so this brought back lots of fond memories :)

Ayden

Chilled Coconut Pudding

Ayden’s favourite that evening was this chilled coconut pudding. It was definitely a huge serving per person but he almost finished it all by himself!

Look at him. He had such a big scoop of coconut pudding..

And it all went into the little tummy of his.

We had a great time feasting on dinner and mooncakes. I think if I eat more, my face will be as round as a full moon! Ayden is already experiencing food coma there. Just look at his face. LoL.

I only like the traditional skin with lotus paste, don’t mind single or double egg yolks. Not a fan of the rest! Hint! Hint! :D

  • //

So many mooncakes to try. I also want!! As long as they are not too sweet. And I want that coconut too, Ayden. Nice on warm day.

  • //

Oh it’s moon cakes time again! I like durian snow skin. Yummy! Wow! The food here looks so delicious!! :)

  • //

I agree, those moon cakes are all very pretty and everything, but when it comes to moon cakes, I am a hardcore traditionalist. Show me the Shanghai moon cake, or not at all! :/

  • //

Always my favourite Chinese cuisine restaurant and I had satisfying portion of durian mooncake that night because they generously served a few pieces of it :P

  • //

Don’t think I will eat mooncake this year. The avocado and scallop under cheese sounds interesting. How muchdoes it cost? Can we order each item individually?

    • //

Yes you can order them individually. These dishes are all in their menu.
