Nasi Lemak Creme Brulee @ Ecole P, Damansara Uptown

Malaysians love their nasi lemak. That is the first thing we miss each time we travel overseas and will be the first thing we eat as soon as we touch down back in Malaysia. But there is this someone who loves it too much until he recreates it into a dessert resulting in a strange but intriguing Nasi Lemak Crème Brulee. I’ve seen this dessert a lot on Instagram so I told Darling that we must try it no matter what. Curiosity kills the cat but it won’t kill me :P

With that mission in mind, we made our way to Ecole P in Damansara Uptown one fine evening.

Ecole

We were extremely lucky that day as we found an empty parking spot right smack in front of the café. If you know this area well, you’ll know that finding an empty parking spot here is quite tricky so with that part settled we happily made our way upstairs.

 Ecole P

Woots. What’s with all these?

Ecole P classroom

Once inside I totally understand the motivational quotes on the staircase. Ecole P café is actually modelled after a classroom, complete with chalkboards and all reminding me of my school years.

Ecole P duck bag

I saw this cute duck bag at the side of our table and took a peek to see a pencil case and some books inside.

ecole p cutleries

Opened the pencil case and saw cutleries in it. Haha. Genius!

Ecole P menu

Guess what? The books in the bag are actually the menu here! Very, very smart move of the owners. They must have really loved school. Hehe.

Okay, enough about school. Now let’s makan.

Ecole hot chocolate

I ordered Hot Chocolate for Ethan and the milk comes in a feeding bottle! LoL! He enjoyed adding his own milk into his drink. That kept him occupied for a while there :D I took a sip of that chocolate drink and oh my, it is really good chocolate here giving it a very rich and thick chocolaty taste.

ecole tea

My Discipline TEAcher (RM9)

I love how they name their tea series after the various teachers in school. Chamomile, goji, red dates, dried longan and orange is simply refreshing and soothing. Served with honey in a baby bottle this is too cute to resist.

Ecole P salad

Citrus Salad (RM9.90)

We start off our meal with this Citrus Salad. Do you see what I see? I saw Hawflakes! Do you still eat hawflakes today? I don’t. Not because I don’t like it but because my mummy doesn’t buy this for me anymore :P

But having hawflakes in this salad is brilliant! Besides the hawflakes, this zesty mixed salad is dressed in goji dressing and tossed with dried fruits, orange and chicken. A refreshing start to our dinner that evening.

Ecole P tiffin

Our next order came in a tiffin carrier to our surprise.

pumpkin soup

Pumpkin Soup (RM9.90)

We opened the tiffin container to a warm oven roasted pumpkin soup with cranberry with bits of salted egg yolk and beef bacon added into the soup giving it an awesome flavour. Soup was served with a slice of garlic bread.

Ecole P chicken wings

Coke & Sprite Chicken Wing (RM13.90)

We got another tiffin container when we ordered their chicken wings. I’m familiar with Coke chicken – slow braised chicken wings in coca cola and always cook this for any potluck party but this is my first time eating Sprite chicken. Actually to tell you the truth, I was not aware I was having Sprite chicken. All I know I was sitting there wondering why are there two shades of chicken wings served before me. Only towards the end of my meal did I asked the person who took my orders and was told my order of Coke chicken comes automatically with Sprite chicken wings too. LoL. Both are equally tender and flavorful so I don’t mind at all :D

Ecole P laksa

Fish a la Laksa (RM16.90)

This is a MUST TRY if you ever dine here. Spaghetti cooked in thick assam laksa broth and served with generous pan fried black tilapia is simply awesome! The fish person in me is extremely satiated.

Ecole chicken chop

Chicken Chop

I don’t remember the price for this but what is worth mentioning is the jaw dropping coating for this chicken. The chicken is actually coated with crushed fish biscuits. Can you see that single fish biscuit in the picture above? That is my favourite snack back in my school days and they actually use this for their chicken chop.

Now, here’s the part we have been waiting for the entire evening. The Nasi Lemak Creme Brulee.

Ecole dessert nasi lemak

Nasi Lemak Creme Brulee (RM10.90)

The first time I heard about this, my mind went ‘impossible!’. How can you make creme brulee to taste like nasi lemak? But apparently they can and they did.

Nasi lemak creme brule

Infusing local ingredients such as pandan, santan and a hint of ginger into this French dessert to combine the best of both world. Served with berry sambal sauce complete with fried anchovies, peanuts and sliced cucumber. You have just got to try this at least once in your lifetime. If you live nearby then you can try it more than once lah but I’m just saying that this is THE one dessert that you might want to bring your outstation guests to try out. I would recommend for you to share this though. Darling and I can’t finish it.

I am really impressed with their culinary creations here. The food served is mostly one of a kind. You can’t get them elsewhere but here.

  • //

    • //

When you fly here, do let me know :)

  • //

oh, this is pretty creative.. now let me guess, this would probably be opened by a group of young minds behind the business?? hehehe.. so they have the nasi lemak crème brûlée, do they also serve char koay teow soufflé?? :p

    • //

Yes I guess they are young. And no they don’t have CKT souffle… yet :P

  • //

What the f…?? I thought you had a typo with the title of the post! I’m mind blown now!

    • //

Haha. No typo. When are you coming down again?

  • //

Where’s the nasi? I guess it’s just creme brulee, made savoury instead of sweet with the sambal and all inside. Very innovative and creative, I would say. Lots of gimmicks this place. Interesting!

    • //

No nasi. just the name. I’ll bring you here if you are around. Do let me know in advance on your next trip ok? :)

  • //

I’ve always loved this restaurant! Relatively close to my house. The only gripe is the annoying lack of parking so have to be smart about when to go. LOL. Now I have a lotta reason to go back. Impressive food selection!! I’m super curious bout the crème brûlée!!!

    • //

I was curious too but now no more. Haha. Go try it with Denise since she was very excited to finally get to try that nasi lemak ice cream that day.

  • //

I like the milk bottle thingy, very creative LOL and no. I don’t like nasi lemak :D

    • //

I like the bottle thingy too. I know you don’t eat nasi lemak and anything yang sewaktu dengan nya :D

  • //

What I can say is not really my thing, haha LOL

    • //

      You prefer them separately right?

  • //

Oh my, my favourite Nasi Lemak turn into creme brûlée. I want to try!!

    • //

When you are back here, do remember to try this :D

  • //

Is the creme brulee sweet or savoury on its own? I know the ikan bilis, peanuts are savoury but the creme brulee itself?

    • //

The creme brulee is sweet. It takes an acquired taste to get used to the combination I guess but yeah, you’ve just got to try it to really understand how it taste. Just a little reminder to share it as it can be too much to eat it on your own.
