Submarine Museum, Malacca

One fine day, I saw pictures of my cousin’s hubby and son visiting a submarine. Well, I’ve seen them visiting helicopters, ships and all and kept thinking how nice if Ethan gets to see all those for real and then I saw the SUBMARINE and totally lose it.  You can imagine my excitement! I’ve never seen a real submarine in my life! It’s only fair that this Submerryn gets to see and touch a real submarine at least once in her life. So I asked my cousin where it’s at and to my delight, she told me it is in Klebang, Malacca. I anxiously waited for my next trip back to my hometown so I can pay my ‘big brother’ a visit.

The day finally comes. That morning, I woke up early and asked my father if he would bring us to Klebang to hunt for that submarine as I’m not familiar with the roads in Malacca. He happily agreed and our quest began…

But Ethan went in free that day, I don’t know why :D

My heart skipped a beat when I finally came face-to- face with this mighty submarine. It feels so surreal. I stood there at awe for a good few minutes until Darling had to snap his fingers in front of me and hurried me to enter the submarine.

The sky was crystal clear that morning with not a single puff of cloud visible. The submarine was really an awesome sight. This huge ‘manmade fish’ that explored the deep blue sea..

My uncle Harry told me this is a decommissioned training submarine. In layman English it means, “this submarine was used to train our Navy Personnel before they are posted to a “real” submarine. Decommissioned means it has been condemned … not longer fit for use. To put it in perspective, it is equivalent to your Driving School car … for you to learn driving before you get your license to drive a proper car!”

“You see, in the Armed Forces, the Officers and vessels have to be commissioned first; normally by Royalty; before they can go into service. Once they are no longer fit for service; due to age, wear and tear etc., they have to be decommissioned before being taken off service! Ok, a better word for “Decommissioned” would be “Retired”. In the case of personnels, they are pensioned off while in the case of vessels, it would be condemned and disposed off!  In the case of this submarine, it was taken over by the Melaka State Government and turned into a museum!” he added.

Thank you Unc Harry, now I understand better.

Ok, time to get inside!

There’s a bit of climbing here and there so you better watch your step if you don’t want to end up rolling in the deep :P

Not only you’ll need to watch your step, you’ll need to watch your head too.

The door. I’ve seen this ‘scene’ in movies countless times and now Ethan finally gets to open and shut a submarine door for real! Hehe.

The walkway is narrow in the submarine.

Ayden was fascinated too.

He too had fun exploring the submarine.

Eventhough the sun was shining brightly that morning, it was extremely windy too so we did not really feel hot. Ethan had fun running around the submarine.

Like a little prince, Ayden is sheltered from the direct sun light :D

We had SO MUCH fun at the submarine that my dad is already planning to bring my mom over some day! Now I can happily declare that I have seen and touched a real submarine. *happy*
