Sunbath to treat jaundice
These days, it is very common to find newborns suffering from jaundice after birth.
I was extremely happy when the paed gave clearance for us to go home 3 days after giving birth to my little one as he wasn’t showing any signs of jaundice. We were however, told to come back several days later to check for jaundice again. That got me nervous as I am afraid if he is required to be admitted for phototherapy should jaundice catch up with him.
By the 4th day I saw that the little one has indeed turn a little bit yellow. My mom and I quickly do the necessary to prevent it becoming worse. We sunbath him.
Sunbath is an effective way to treat jaundice in newborns. Let the sun’s rays bathe his entire body especially the belly for about 10 minutes. The best time to do this is between 7-8am.
We did this for 2 consecutive mornings and the next day when we brought him to the paed again, she said he is all good. Phew!
Do you do this too for your newborn? We did this for Ethan when he was born and he too escaped the dreaded jaundice.
By the way, how true is the saying that coconut water helps prevent jaundice in newborns? I don’t know how true that is but I did drink lots of coconut water in my third trimester. I drank it coz I just LOVE coconut water and it kept me cool and refreshed.
Sunbathing works. My grandma said red date water also can treat jaundice.
Didn’t know about this but this is something similar to those boxes in hospital right? LOL, no idea what they are called though >_<
I sunbathed my kids too when they had signs of jaundice. But nowadays, medical shops sell ‘san chee chee’ which can be boiled as bath water for the baby. It can treat jaundice.
I did it for my 3 gals. But did not expose them to direct sunlight outside the house. She was placed near the bedroom window where the morning sun rays were and sunbathed for a few days. After that, no more jaundice.
I noticed that you tagged this post under “Ayden, Family”. So that’s baby’s name? Hello baby Ayden! ^^
I did that for hern hern and he turned dark after that. The gynae said we put him under the sun for too Long! LOL…As for Nicole, she was admitted for for night for uv ray and that seems a safer option.
Yeah sounds familiar. Wow so fast playing ninja turtle already?
Yeah I’ve seen this done to my nephew too! Just expose to sun and it’ll be all good! :)
Yes I did this too. For drinking lots of coconut water can help jaundice, I dun think so wor. I drank quite a lots too, but both my kids also got jaundice, but luckily not so serious till need admitted lah.
I didn’t drink coconut water, but my 2 younger kids no jaundice…
Should get him a cool sunglasses to cover his eyes :P
