Let’s Be Healthy

Most of you know that I was a kindergarten teacher before I got Ethan right? Ok, in case you don’t, NOW you know :D I quit after delivering him to become a full-time stay at home mom. It was not part of my plan but.. nevermind :)

Back when I was teaching, I always tell the parents to make sure their kids HAVE breakfast before coming to school as the nutrients taken will help them to be more alert in class. BUT more often than not, parents are simply too busy to spare that additional 10 minutes daily to make sure their kids eat something before going to school :( Because of that I always get sleepy and dreamy children in my class until it is recess. But do you know that by the time recess is over, HALF of the school hours are over as well? That means the kids have wasted half of their day in school with their brain in ‘sleep’ mode.

Parents need to be aware of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle amongst school-aged children. That is why now before Ethan goes to his Mandarin class, I make sure he eats something at home. It does not need to be much. A little will do as long as he is eating healthy.

On days that I can wake up early, I’ll prepare noodles or eggs but on days that we are in a rush, cereals and hot Milo will do. In fact, Ethan loves eating cereals. I think he is like me. I love cornflakes! I like to think they are the healthier choice of popcorns! ^_^

Sometimes Ethan gets bored with just noodles and eggs so I really need to find new recipes to whet his appetite. That’s where Nestle’s Healthy Kids website comes in handy!

I baked these Twinkle Stars cookies the other day but mine turned out ‘not so pretty’ :( so I pinjam this picture from the website instead. I promise to bake a prettier one soon and post pictures okay? :D

So easy right? Ethan loves them and brought those cookies to class. I’ll be making the High Fibre Banana Pancake one of these days (as soon as I grabbed hold of some bananas!). Click here for more simple recipes for kids.

Healthy eating and healthy lifestyle is not impossible no matter how busy we are. I salute Nestle for taking the initiative to promote awareness of the benefits of healthy lifestyle amongst school-aged children around the world. It’s high time someone educate parents out there in order for us to educate our children better.

Good! Good! Breakfast is the most important meal of the day but really sad that most people will want to sleep a bit longer and rush off as soon as they get up…and there are lazy people who would rather not eat…and insist that they cannot eat so early in the morning – but other people cook, they can eat leh? Just look at the long queues at a hotel buffet breakfast in the morning…and look at how much they eat! Liars!!!

I’m not a morning person so cooked breakfast (like noodles/eggs) is non-existent in my family haha. Chloe takes milk with bread or cereal or a banana every morning before going to school. She’s been eating this same old thing daily for years now.

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a simple recipe.

  • //

Sad to say that I only give my girls a cup of MILO with some cream crackers every morning. I will prepare them breakfast on weekends only.
