What to do on a 3D/2N stay in Awana Kijal, Golf, Beach & Spa Resort

Continuation from my earlier post on Awana Kijal, Golf, Beach & Spa Resort, this post is all about what we can do during a 3D/2N stay in this beautiful haven.

Let me share with you our itinerary so you can get a rough idea on how to plan your holidays should you decide to stay here :D

Day 1

Depart KL in the morning. Driving from KL to Awana Kijal, Golf, Beach & Spa Resort will take approximately 5 hours. Pushing off from KL around 9-10am will be ideal as you’ll arrive at the resort just in time for check-in.

Upon check-in, relax and take your time to explore the place.

It is recommended that you head over to the Fun & Adventure counter to customize the tour that you wish to participate during your stay here.

As for us, we signed up for the Firefly watching @ RM50/adult (half rate for 4-12 years old) at 8.30pm on the 1st night. We also signed up for Kampung Tour @ RM60/adult (RM30/child) for the 2nd day.

We had to go watch firefly on the first night as we don’t want to risk delaying it to the second night only for it to rain resulting in cancellation of the tour, do we?

For the rest of the evening, you can either indulge in a round of golf or participate in the Watersports Activities. As for us, we spent the time at the pool instead as the weather was not on our side the first evening.

After having our dinner in the resort at Restoran Kampung, we assemble at the Lobby for the Firefly tour. The journey from the resort to Sungai Yak Yah where we danced with the fireflies takes about 15-20 minutes.

Read the full story of our Firefly Watching here.

It was truly a night to remember. Though it drizzled earlier during dinner, the sky cleared just in time for us to enjoy the firefly tour. We are grateful for that as this is Ethan’s first time being in harmony with fireflies and he loves it lots! Worth every moment of it!

Day 2

Breakfast at Restoran Kampung. We assembled at the lobby at 9.15am for the Kampung Tour we signed up earlier. The first stop – Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating, Pahang.

The numbers of turtles are rapidly declining hence the Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating is set up to conserve and care for whatever that is left of turtles out there. We got to see some Green Turtles, Batik Turtles as well as Hawkbill Turtles. Unfortunately, there is no Leatherback turtle for us to see as they are now endangered and on the verge of extinction :(

Read the full entry of our visit to the Turtle Sanctuary in Cherating here.

Next stop is the Pusat Anyaman Tikar Mengkuang, Kg. Cherating, Kuantan.

I’ve never woven a real mengkuang mat in my life so this is certainly a first! Ethan helped me out too! ^_^ It was lots of fun. We can also buy many handicrafts made of woven mengkuang at a bargain there! Read more about it here.

Our next destination is Batik painting.

Ethan wanted to try Batik painting so we bought a piece at RM10 for him.

I think he did a great job. He painted the entire masterpiece himself! It is now nicely framed and hung in our craft Studio :D

The last stop for our Kampung Tour is to get Lemang. We stopped by Gerai Lemang Warisan Adik Beradik Kijal for some mouth-watering lemang!

Look at the crowd! Lemang is hugely popular here in Terengganu so it’s basically a MUST eat when you are in the area. Full entry on the fragrant lemang here.

Once we are done with all that, we went for lunch and back to the resort in the early evening. We rested for a while before we changed into our swimming attire for the Watersports activities! This is what I’ve been looking forward to since yesterday.

But alas, when we got to the beach, we saw this:

The sky is threatening to eat us up! I’ve never seen anything like it before and it scares the heck out of me.

The red flag on the beach is up meaning we are not allowed to do any water activities with that kind of weather. So we chilled with some coconut drinks instead while crossing our fingers and toes that the sky will clear again!

True enough, about half an hour later, the sky cleared up and the red flag is taken away! Yee hah!

Darling went jet skiing while I stayed with Ethan on the beach playing sand. Darling loves the freedom on the jet ski.

He went far, far away until I lost sight of him!

Once he returned, he stayed with Ethan while I went erm.. Air Head riding?

They told me this is called Air Head but what it does to me is actually bring me for a ride ala superman on the sea at top speed. Among the 3 of us girls, I was the ONLY one being tossed out of the float into the deep ocean not once but TWICE! >_< The second time I fell off I was quite near the beach already so I did not bother to get up there again but decided to swim to the beach instead. The 2 girls can’t help but laugh each time I ‘disappeared’! -.-

After that I still have the guts to try the Banana Boat Ride as Darling promised to go with me while Ethan stayed with the resort staffs.

Ooops, caught on camera Darling giving me encouragement kiss ^_^

If I thought Air Head is brutal, Banana Boat ride is even more exhilarating! The fact that we are all sitting instead of lying down brought the centre of gravity higher hence it is easier to fall into the sea that way!

Just take a look at this:

That my friends, is how they sink a SUBMERRYN! >_<

It was FUN, FUN and more FUN! As the boatman says it, “If you don’t fall into the sea, we are not doing our job right”! ^.^

We got back to the beach where Ethan had his share of fun. Darling brought him ATV riding.

We rode this once in Penang and Ethan loves it since. He’ll ask for this each time we go for a beach holiday! :)

Darling and Ethan proceeded to the pool (Ethan’s favourite spot in this resort) while I go for my Spa treatment at Taman Sari Royal Heritage Spa. Getting a massage after a long day out coupled with those watersports activities is just heavenly. The massage rate here is very affordable with the ala carte 60 minutes Javanese Massage costing as low as RM120!

We had steamboat buffet dinner in the resort itself before retiring for the night.

Day 3

It’s all about relaxation today. After breakfast, we spent the last hours playing at Ethan’s favourite spot – the pool before going back to the room to clean up and check-out.

It was a fun-filled 3D/2N stay at Awana Kijal Golf, Beach & Spa resort. Not a single minute is left wasted. Now that I know they have so much to offer, I’ll definitely bookmark this place for our future holidays. It brings us closer as a family and I feel pretty much comfortable in this friendly resort.
