Drum vs Piano

Late last year, Ethan requested for drum lessons. I don’t know where he got the idea from but I guess it must be after we watched Justin Bieber playing the drum when he was like what… 4? Talking about Justin Bieber, have you listen to his latest single, Boyfriend? I haven’t but my niece is nuts about him. Can’t blame her though, after all, her name is Hazel. She was BORN a NUT! :P

Ok, back to the drum story. Ethan requested to attend drum lessons but I don’t fancy having all that wrecking sound at home. I’ve always managed to change topic each time he brought it up until one fine day..

He was given the chance to play the drum during one of our makan sessions. OMG, he can’t stop talking about it since.  It was drum this, drum that, drum, drum… drum!

I knew I had to do something. Being the ‘best’ parents ever, we sourced for a music teacher and bought him this:

Yeah I know, that’s NOT a drum.

We managed to strike a deal with Ethan to learn the piano for at least a couple of years before we get him a set of drums. He agrees to wait until he is 7 as we told him that his leg is not long enough at the moment to play the drum! :P

So there it is, the piano at home. His FIRST piano lesson will officially kick-off TOMORROW, 28 March 2012. The piano has been sitting there for almost a week now and he just can’t wait to explore it. He can’t wait for his first piano lesson so what he did was googled for how to play the piano and learn the keys by himself. Neither Darling nor me can help him as we are BOTH non-musical people.

We found simple piano notes online and he tried playing it.

Here he is playing the Happy Birthday song

And Mary Had a Little Lamb

and Hot Cross Buns

I don’t know if he is doing it right or not as like what I’ve said, I have no piano knowledge whatsoever. What I do know is, his piano teacher will come tomorrow for his first official lesson and he is extremely excited already!

Very clever Ethan, can play the song so fast. My girl is attending her 1st piano class next month :)

  • //

He is so smart, he is able to learn playing without teacher.

  • //

Sound of the piano definitely more softer than drums, good choice dear!
Invite teacher to teach at ur home oh, definitely cost more than study at centre!

  • //

fuyoh! ethan also know piano eh? cool cool! :D

Wow! A piano at home. I havent get one for my girl who started her lessson few months ago. We need to wait till she passed her Grade 1 then we consider getting a grand piano. Piano very expensive and we want to make sure she is that serious. Or “sayang” later if she is not playing. I play organ when I was young, but not a piano.

playing piano is always better than drumming at home, haha.. unless you’ve got a nice room all sound proof for him to play drums inside.. :p

  • //

Awww so bahagia…. back in the days, I only had a keyboard haha :D

  • //

  • //

  • //

OMG I tell you what, Ethan haven’t start his lesson yet but he’s so talented already!! Well used his fingers, that’s really awesome!! Train him to become next Lee Hom already la!! Go go go!!

Ethan is really something huh? Although his fingering is wrong but still he got the rhythm right. With his enthusiasm and patience, he will go far in his piano lessons. But you’re so brave to buy the digital piano so fast haha. You’ve made the right choice anyway. Drums can always learn later.

  • //

Cute! So fast he can play on his piano. How much did you buy the piano?

  • //

piano or drums…either way its good. let him pick up what he likes coz it will instil in him discipline.

  • //

Ethan starts piano at such a young age and I guess he would be able to play you love songs in no time :)

  • //

Well done Ethan. Good to see he has the interest in playing piano.
