Casa del Cocco : Non- Halal Fusion Italian Cuisine

You know how big a fish person I am right? And then you should meet my friends who are ALL porcine fans!

The porky gang picked plump pork over fish that fine day as they heard of this new place that serves NON-HALAL fusion Italian food! The word NON-HALAL drives them into a frenzy and I just couldn’t say NO. Well, as the saying goes, if you can’t beat them, JOIN them! So for that evening, I’m as piggish and portly as my pudgy porky gang :D

Casa del Cocco means coconut house synonym with the magazine Coconut House. Mr Yong from Coconut House magazine has always wanted to venture into the restaurant business hence the birth of Casa del Cocco. He doubles as the Chef and whips out delicious fusion Italian cuisine at Casa del Cocco. This place is relatively new. They has just begun operation like 3 weeks only when we dined there last week.

First look at the place and we are a bit intimidated as we reckon the price of the food might be a lil’ pricey looking at the interior but after a sneak peek at the menu, we are rest assured that it is pretty reasonable. It was almost a full-house crowd with only ONE corner left so we quickly sat down and got comfortable! Since the crowd is here, this better be GOOD!

I got excited when I saw their wood-fire oven! I’ve always love pizza baked in wood-fire oven. It gives a lingering aroma that an electric oven just can’t provide! Immediately I know that my order will be PIZZA today!

Wood-fire oven.

We had bread and olive oil vinaigrette while deciding what to order. As usual, I’ll order Spaghetti Bolognese for Ethan. Here, I have a choice of having beef or pork and since Ethan and Darling don’t take beef, I chose pork. Well, it IS our plan to have a porky feast today so…

Pork Bolognese (RM18) for that hungry little boy who just woke up from a short nap in the car

One look at the cheese and I’m hungry already! The spaghetti is done al-dente just as how Ethan loves his pasta to be. The minced pork stewed with tomatoes, chicken liver and bacon is simply delightful. Ethan and Darling enjoyed this a lot!

While the lil’ boy is enjoying his pasta, we started our evening with sauteed mushrooms.

Sauteed mushrooms (RM7)

We heard people raving about the Warm Rocket Salad here so we just HAD to try it!

Warm salads can be blooming amazing or a complete disaster. First, you have got to get your hungry guests around the table before you plate up, so as soon as their bums are on the chairs, you are tossing the warm ingredients in with the rocket leaves. Boom, boom, boom on a plate and it’s in front of them – JamieOliver.com

That’s exactly what we got. Boom, boom, boom and it’s in front of us! LoL! Nah… we did not get to see the tripple boom part but we did manage to get a taste of the red onions, rocket leaves, tomatoes, bacon bits and OMG the bacon bits are simply delightful!

The one I’ve been waiting for – Pork with Rocket (RM18). Imagine having siew yok pieces on your pizza. This is as close as it gets! I’m glad the porky gang made me have this instead of my usual tuna pizza. At least I found something to rave about :D

But da Submerryn has GOT to have FISH no matter what so I had this Tuna and Capers pasta (RM13.50). Served with generous chunks of tuna, capers, Italian parsley, tomatoes and chili this is simply amazing as it has that tinge of spiciness in each bite. No, Ethan can’t take this as he has not acquired the taste for spicy food but I love this! My favourite <3

NOW, let’s take a look at what the rest of the gang had. Of course they are all pork, pork and more pork!

The Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder is a wonderful idea as it is roasted in the oven overnight with whatever amber is left at the end of the day in the wood-fire oven. I had a cut of this and I must say I’m surprised at how tender it is. But when I took a second helping for Darling, the meat proves to be a bit too tough. Maybe that part is exposed to stronger amber hence the texture. Took a third cut and I got Darling a nice piece of juicy and tender piece of meat again :D

Veal and bacon. Veal is the meat of young cattle. It is much softer and tender than beef. It is also not as strongly flavoured as beef.

I find this a bit too well done. I’m not a fan of veal but if you are and you wish to have this, I’d recommend for you to state your preference (medium rare/well done) while making your order.

We tried their Traditional Carbonara too. It’s okay but if you ask me for pasta, I’d recommend the Tuna and Capers and also the Pork Bolognese instead.

Poached Pear with Red Wine, Lemon Rind and Juice (RM7.50)

I had this for dessert and I must say that it is an interesting experience. Hehe..

But I prefer Ethan’s chocolate cake anytime! We are cake monsters :D

Overall it was a lovely experience dining with the porky gang. I’m sorry I can’t recall some of the price of food though.
