The Speakeasy Restaurant & Bar : Christmas Eve Set Dinner 2011

“The Restaurant that you didn’t know about…. Until NOW” That was what they wrote on their FB Page and I totally agree to it! I was privileged to be invited to the preview of Speakeasy’s Christmas Eve Set Dinner on Saturday and honestly speaking, I wasn’t quite aware of them UNTIL I stepped into the premise.

Tucked in the ground floor of Ming Annexe Building, it is truly a hidden gem for I really like what I saw. My first impression of the place is how cozy and spacious it is. I went with Darling and Ethan and am so glad that it is very kid friendly. I dislike to dine in a cramped room so you can imagine my relief when I see that the next table is at least several arms length away from us! LoL! Yeah, I use arms to measure the distance as when you have kids, other people’s kids will be tugging and pulling on you if you are seated too close to each other.

Our dinner for the night comes with wine pairing so ooh la la.. Let’s start!

The selection for wine pairing.

It was quite early at only 6.15pm but the sight of warm and fluffy bread and butter send my heart racing as I super love bread! I don’t need rice, bread is all I ever need :D

Guess I wasn’t the only one who love bread! Look at the little one happily buttering his bread! :P

Roasted Butternut & Shellfish Broth

We started off our dinner with this warm and delectable soup. Served with curried glaced prawns, confit fennel, scallop chips and a touch of cognac.

I reserved some bread specially for this you know. I love having bread and soup so this is just the perfect start to a lovely night.

The broth is paired with Tyrell’s Moore’s Creek Semillion Sauvignon Blanc 2010

Love this as it starts out with a tangy citrus taste that eventually evolve to a rather nutty feel.

Deconstructed Caesar Salad

I’ve seen many deconstructed caesar salad whereby boiled eggs are halved or when half boiled eggs are being used, only the yolk is widely used with the egg white no where to be seen. I’ve never come across such CUTELY done egg before! (^_^) Super love it when I popped the entire egg in my mouth and the egg yolk oozes out giving such warm comfort!

Okay, so maybe we are not supposed to pop the entire egg in the mouth at one go as this is supposed to be fine dining and I looked horrible with my mouth wide open like that but I just can’t help it okay? How else do you suppose you can get the runny yolk into your mouth if you cut it in half? :P

The salad is paired with Tyrell’s Moore’s Creek Chardonnay 2009

It’s fruity and I love the citrus flavor that ends with a crisp feel. It clears your palate for the next meal.

For our next meal, we are to choose from either the tenderloin or the cod fish.

Hickory Smoked Tenderloin

Served with portobello bread and butter pudding, brussels sprouts, baby carrots and squash with giblet port wine gravy. It is done medium rare and you can see just how nicely pink the insides are! But well, I did not have that as I’ve always been a fish person and so is Darling so both of us opt for the Cod fish and oh my my..

Rosemary Infused Cod Brandade

We are truly pleased with our selection. Served on a bed of Miso infused trio bean stew with crab meat topped with duo basil capsicum relish, I dare say I’ve never had better cod than this! I was told that the chef marinated the cod in rock salt for about 1 1/2 hours and then washed it thoroughly before soaking it in ice to regain the solid texture. The cod is then marinated in milk overnight. THERE! The dish might seem simple to us but the preparation is really time consuming and the end result is SUPERB!

What we got is tender and flaky cod that is so moist and perfect! I highly recommend this! SUBMERRYN is happy! :D

The dish is paired with  Tyrell’s Moore’s Creek Shiraz 2009.

Red wine is always perfect to go with roast meals and here it does no wrong being paired with my cod fish :)

Cockburn's Special Reserve Port

Our dessert to the lovely dinner is the Yuletide Bread & Butter Pudding.

Served with semolina, cranberries, infused with lavender and topped with a nest of spun sugar this is definitely a perfect ending to a beautiful night.

Paired with Cockburn’s Special Reserve Port it definitely makes for a sweet ending.

While Darling and I each had the above mentioned menu, Ethan had a delightful time savoring his hot plate of pasta. That boy can survive on bread and pasta alone :D

Speakeasy Restaurant & Bar

Our dinner started at 6pm and ended at 10.30pm. It was because we were having such a great time that we deliberately take our time to indulge and soak in the good food and wine. Heavenly…

The CHRISTMAS PLEASURE Set Dinner is priced at only RM140++ per person.
