Taiwanese Food Promotion @ Tai Zi Heen

Taiwanese Food Promotion at Tai Zi Heen Prince Hotel & Residence Kuala Lumpur
We feel like going Taiwanese tonight so we drove all the way to Tai Zi Heen (since they are having their Taiwanese food promotion from 18 to 30 November 2011) to satisfy our cravings.

Dried daikon radish omelet
We started off with the dried daikon radish omelet. Pan fried egg whipped with three-months preserved dried daikon radish, a great start to our dinner ![]()

Thick vegetables and seafood soup
We had soup next. The steaming hot broth, loaded with big and fresh prawns, mushrooms and vegetables warmed up my almost freezing brain (due to the rain and aircond) almost immediately. What a relieve! Taste wise, this soup is a little mild compared to other Taiwanese soup I’ve had before. I learnt that this is because this is the authentic Taiwanese soup and not like those I’ve had previously which had been compromised to suit our Malaysian savory taste bud.
Stir-fried shark’s fin with egg with vegetables, green bamboo shoots and fish cake
Our next dish is the stir-fried egg with shark fin, vegetables, green bamboo shoots and fish cake. Again, you may request to omit shark fin from the menu.

Traditional three-cup chicken braised with stock, black sesame oil and thick soya sauce
This I LIKE! The chicken meat is very well marinated. Love that the meat is extremely soft and tender. Special guest chef from Taipei Garden Hotel, Executive Chef Wang explained that the secret lies in controlling the flame as the dish is cooked to get just the right texture. My favourite dish of the night!

Steamed glutinous rice topped with crab meat
The mighty crab sits nicely on a bed of steamed glutinous rice. I find the glutinous rice to be rather bland. I’m so Malaysian-ized my tongue needs to be scrapped! >_<
I enjoyed my meal with lots of chili
I almost fainted when our dessert was served as they casually told me that these are Sun Cake and Beef Tongue Cake. I went, “WHAT?!!” They were speaking in Mandarin and that was their brief translation to me.
I heard BEEF and I then I heard TONGUE and there was CAKE in that sentence too! Put them together and I visualize an Ox’s TONGUE in the cake waiting for me to bite! My face turned so white that the Manager had to run towards me to explain to me that it is actually TONGUE SHAPED sweet pastry filled with malt sugar with NO TONGUE in it!
I’ve GOT TO LEARN MANDARIN! >_<
I love the sun cake. The baked pastry with sweet filling is nice to end my meal.
Ethan said he preferred the Beef Tongue Cake to the Sun Cake. I asked Darling but his mouth is too sticky to speak by now! LoL! Someone please give him a cup of tea!

We were also privileged to witness the live demonstration on how to make Pineapple Cake by Chef Wang and eat it too!
Nom nom nom… I got to bring home several pineapple cakes too!
Itu dia Ethan and Darling during the live demonstration of making pineapple cake
Now we can all make and sell pineapple cakes already!
The set menu starts from RM78 nett to RM88 nett and available for lunch and dinner in a la carte style and also set menus.
