Butter Toast (Roti Bakar)
I made this for Ethan’s snack today.
I call this roti bakar ‘Butter Toast’ as what I did was spread butter on bread and toast it on a hot pan. Sprinkled some sugar on top and yummeh out came the most unhealthy snack ever!!
It’s not the same as toasting plain bread in a toaster and spreading butter after it tossed out of the toaster. I don’t like that. I like toasting buttered bread on pan as the butter will be sooooooo fragrant!
While I did this, I reminisce the time when I was still in school. My mom used to make this for us. And I remembered that I love this a lot! I love biting into the crunchy layer of burnt buttered bread and I super love the fragrant lingering aroma. I remembered licking the sugar off my lips. My oh my, those are surely the good ol’ times.
Back to present – in our quest to eat healthy we tend to avoid everything with no nutritional value whatsoever. I have never done this toast for Ethan as I don’t see what good butter and sugar can do for him. But as I was toasting bread on the pan today, I remembered the priceless moments shared with my mother and sisters while eating this bread long, long ago. Those memories are by far more precious than any health food off the counter money can buy.
I made this for Ethan today and he loves it! Took his first bite and he exclaimed, “Yummmm… yummy! Crispy and mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm NICE!”
I know this has an impact on him today and I hope he’ll remember me as much this reminded me of my MOTHER! I’d love for him to remember me one day and say, “My mom makes the BEST toast around!” Hehe… wishful thinking there aye? :D
I feel like running back to my Mommy now and request her to make this for ME! (^_^)

happy food. Its Ok to indulge in unhealthy snacks once in a while. Its all part and parcel of experience. An adventure for the young one and his taste buds.
My gram used to do this and added crunchy peanut butter since I was quite a peanut butter girl. Sometime we added cheese as well to the butter and sugar. Awesomely unhealthy and healthy!

Yes, very sedap one!! use sugar halus.. but now myself instead of putting sugar, put some honey..

My mum makes really yummy spaghetti with chicken but I forgot the recipe T_T
I super like like like! Actually this food reminds me of my beloved late father. He used to do this for us just minus the sugar. Sigh.
