Trishna : First love bite, a story of food affair

It was just an ordinary day. A bunch of us wanted to try something different. Remember I blogged about aphrodisiac food not too long ago? It is amusing to know that most Indian food is aphrodisiac so we decided to try some that evening.

Restaurant Trishna, Authentic North Indian Cuisine

The first love bite is most remembered and the craving for more can go a long way. Trishna restaurant tells a tale of love for Northern Indian Cuisine. The mastermind of this Indian dine-in venue is the lovely couple, Benny and Neeta Bedi who has been married for 28 years. We were in luck that evening as Benny was around to entertain us. Such humour he is, a joy to be around!

Dazzling interior

When dining Indian, the lassi drink is a must have! Lassi drink is made of fresh milk straight from the farm with added milk curd. We ordered 3 types of lassi and got several empty shot glasses so we can sample each others’ lassi.

Trishna

Lassi drinks

I was trying to be the genius one that evening by deciding which should we have first. I said we should go with the plain lassi first, then the mango as both of them are sweet and lastly the salty lassi. So that was what we did. I had the plain lassi which is nice, I like! Then I tried the mango which is even nicer! And happily took that last shot of the salty lassi… @_@ The geera seed is a little overwhelming for me. I’d go for the mango lassi anytime! :D

Trishna

Papadom

They said the papadom is a must try.

Trishna

Mint Sauce

Mint sauce to go with the papadom.

True enough, Ethan could not have enough of it. Darling had to stop him or he’ll be eating only that for dinner!

Trishna

Hara Bhara Kebab

For starter we had a vegetarian dish, Hara Bhara Kebab.

Trishna

Mury Malai Tikka

We had Mury Malai Tikka too. The tender chicken blended with yoghurt and roasted cashew nut in Tandoor is simply delicious!

Amritsari Fish

I love fish so this dish suits me well. Spiced with fresh herbs it is a delightful bite.

Bhindi Masala

Another favourite dish of mine is the Bhindi Masala, lady’s finger masala.

Goan Fish Curry

New in the menu is the Goan Fish Curry. The fish is alright, but the curry is to shout about! It is not overly creamy and there’s just something in there that makes it very intriguing… I wonder what!

Mutton Rogan Josh

This is another must try. One of their specialty dish, lamb with spice. The lamb is tender and not chewy even people with dentures can enjoy it! :D

Saag Paneer

This spinach with cottage cheese is very spicy! My eyes went watery at the very first bite but as I go on to have more, it became tolerable. I guess chewing on the cheese cubes helps to neutralize the sting a little :)

Jeera Rice

The jeera rice is sprinkled with cumin seeds and a dash of salt. It is perfect to be taken with either the Goan Fish Curry or the Mutton Rogan Josh.

Tarka Dal

And then we had Tarka Dal. Yellow dal so thick it is good stuff! It is not at all runny and goodness it’s just amazing. Why are we having dal after all?

Tandoori and Naan

Because we have the above! We ordered Naan basket and as usual, naan basket comes with a variety of naan. We had Garlic and Plain naan and tandoori too.

What’s the difference between tandoori and naan?

Tandoori is harder and crispier while naan is softer.

Both Darling and Ethan go for naan while I prefer tandoori as I like it crisp! :D But the garlic naan is really good!

Jal Jeera

Throughout dinner, we saw Benny drinking this Jal Jerra drink. It got us curious as it look really refreshing. He recommended that we have it towards the end of the meal. Said to be good for the tummy after all those spicy food, we all agreed to have ONE each! I anticipated it to taste like some “Assam Boi” drink but one sip and AGAIN it tasted exactly like the salty lassi! @_@

But guess what? After having all the dishes above my taste bud is more tolerant to this jeera drink by now. I had sip by sip and before I knew it, I finished my entire glass! (^_^)

Stuffed Tangdi Kebab Special

We were all filled to the brim but Sid just had to try one last dish! He ordered Stuffed Tangdi Kebab Special. It is chicken drumstick stuffed with minced mutton.

But we did not regret it as just look at the stuffing! This is GOOD! A perfect dish to end our meal!

And then comes the desserts…

Gajar Halwa

Gajar Halwa, sweet carrot pudding with traces of cashew nuts is delicious. We love this. I love that they did not make this too sweet.

Rasmalai

The rasmalai is also another specialty of theirs. If you’ve tried rasmalai from other places you’ll know that Trishna’s is really amazing. Unlike other places where it is extremely sweet, over here, they reduced the sweetness to suit the call for less sugar by health conscious diners. Rasmalai is made of fresh milk. It is like eating soggy bread soaked in milk.

Gulab Jamun

The gulab jamun is sweet dough. Not too bad but my favourite is still the carrot pudding :D

We ended the lovely dinner with their signature “Masala Tea” consists of cardamom which helps eases nausea and detox the liver.

It was a very fun evening. What I like about the food tonight is it goes well with any races. The crowd we saw in Trishna comprise of a balanced mix of races and it feels nice to be dining amongst unity.

Having said that, I remembered how hard we laughed when Benny serenaded us with a song that night. He calls it his ‘1Malaysia song’. What got us laughing like mad was after he rendered his song Ethan responded with a loud, “Oh my gawd!” that got Benny blushing! Haha.. and they say kids don’t lie! LoL!

Watch this video of Benny singing..

Benny has got to be the merriest restaurant owner I’ve ever met!

Dining at Trishna will give you a surprise as the bill will come to just a fraction of what dining in a 5 star hotel usually charges!
