Malacca River Cruise

We were in Malacca last weekend and this time I did not just stay home. I ‘toured’ the city :D
We met up with Carol and Eric and started planning what to do. I tell you, being a Malaccan, I’m the BEST person to get opinion of where to go, what to do and eat in Malacca! My answer is always an almost immediate, “DUNNO” LoL! What can I say? I seldom go out jalan-jalan whenever I’m in Malacca!
We saw this boat and Ethan pestered us to go for the river cruise. It was broad daylight, with the sun scorching hot yet the little boy insisted to go for that boat ride! Sigh, if only we could coax him to go for the night cruise instead …
So we bought our tickets. (Adult RM10 / Children below 12 years old, above 2 years old RM5)
There are 2 types of cruises available; recorded commentaries or with a tour guide on board. We took the recorded commentaries cruise.
Darling and Ethan heading towards the cruise. The cruise will only operate with a minimum 8 persons per voyage.
Darling and Ethan boarding the cruise. The tour will take approximately 45 minutes (9km) from the Quay Side Heritage Centre.
Darling and I in the cruise <3
Ethan enjoying the cruise :D

One thing I dislike about the cruise is the fact that we can get wet by the splashing water! Unlike the cruises we took in Paris, Holland and Singapore, this is the FIRST time we got splashed! Thank goodness our cameras are OKAY!
The loving couple – Carol and Eric :)
We saw lots of mangrove during the cruise. Mangroveis valued for its protection and stabilization of lowlying coastal lands and its importance in estuarine and coastal fishery food chains. Mangrove forests protect uplands from storm winds, waves, and floods. Mangroves can help prevent erosion by stabilizing shorelines with their specialized root systems.
I love the many murals on the buildings showcasing the history of Melaka.
The cruise boat passes under many bridges that had important functions in the old days.
The World Heritage Committee meeting in Quebec City has added eight new cultural sites to UNESCO’s World Heritage List on the morning of the 7 of July 2008. Melaka is one of them :D
We also saw the cannons from Kota Melaka during the cruise.
The controversial Malacca’s monorail that has ground to a halt owing to a host of problems.
The monorail line is part of Malacca’s aim to tap the potential of the river as a tourist attraction.
Carol almost fell asleep during the 45 minutes cruise. We enjoyed it nevertheless. Our aim now is to ride the NIGHT CRUISE! Night cruise will be more interesting with awesome display of lights! Malacca River Cruise, we will be back for the night ride! :D
Cruises are available daily at every thirty minute interval between the following times: 9.30am to 5pm and 6pm to 12 midnight.
MALACCA RIVER CRUISE
Venue: The Malacca River jetty in front of the Quayside Heritage Centre.
Departs daily from 9am to 11.30pm
Ticket: Adult RM10, child below 12: RM5

  • //

Nice. First time I went to Malacca, the river was black, so smelly, so dirty…like Sg Petani, Kedah today… They should do something about their river.

  • //

i took the ride before.. hehe.. was like 4 years ago.. haha

  • //

I tried the Singapore cruise …but not this one! Everytime go Melaka usually 1 day trip, no time. LOL

  • //

Me orang melaka. Tapi I haven't never been onto one ler. :p

  • //

Maybe because I see them almost every day. :p

  • //

Nice one, I aiming night cruise too. Should be nice and more happening at night.

  • //

Last weekend? I was in Malacca last weekend too. Traffic jam in Malacca! Made me feel like as if I'm in KL. I've been on the cruise before too walaupun I orang Melaka. hahaha. But I went for the night cruise. You should too. The kids enjoyed it. Yeah one thing about the smelly river but I've seen workers picking up rubbish from the river diligently.

  • //

more cheaper than The Mines cruise & I bet it's longer too :P*really wish to go Melaka jalan2 but always crowded when public Holiday, aduh… >.<*

Not only that boat ride is such a romantic way to cruise, it also looks like a smooth-sailing ride. I wonder if Swimming in the oldest and longest canal in the world would have been fun yet exhausting. hahaha. Cute couples.

  • //

again here…is some mistake here…group tour for 1 boat is RM400.00, not RM100.00…Please change it..!!^^
