JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur Ushers in the Year of the Rabbit

In ushering the New Year of the “rabbit”, we got to experience true Shanghainese gourmet at no other than Shanghai Restaurant, JW Marriott Kuala Lumpur.
Shanghai Restaurant – the only hotel Chinese restaurant in Kuala Lumpur that specialises in exquisite Shanghainese cuisine.

Stir up good fortune and wealth this year with Shanghai’s interesting variety of Yee Sang specially created for this festive season. The Yee Sang can be accompanied with delicacies such as lobster, geo duck, abalone, tuna, scallop, salmon or jelly fish. To cater to the needs of vegetarians, the restaurant also offers mock abalone Yee Sang.
The Yee Sang is served with a homemade sauce which is Shanghai’s well-kept secret recipe and is a must-try. I tasted a hint of wasabi, peanut and lemon juice in the delicious sauce.

We started our meal with the double-boiled superior soup with fish maw. A hearty soup to warm up the stomach :D
We had deep-fried bean curd skin stuffed with French goose liver next. It was interestingly crispy on the outside yet soft inside.
Ethan’s favourite has got to be the Shanghai noodle. He had several helpings of that!
We had one of Shanghai’s speciality, steamed Shanghainese meat dumplings too.
Up next was the braised Shanghainese pork with vegetables. It is important to braise it for a while because the meat will take time to release its flavour and for the flavour to be infused into the dish and this dish was braised perfectly!
The stir-fried eggplant with salted egg yolk is delicious.
The pan-fried glutinous rice cakes with sesame seeds is an interesting selection. It is not deep-fried in flour as usual but is coated with sesame seeds.
It was easily Ethan’s favourite. I told him that the sesame seeds are good for his hair and he just can’t stop eating them! :P
We tried Shanghai’s famous pan fried beef tenderloin chinese spring onion too.
We ended our meal with something sweet and very fragrant – Glutinous rice dumplings in osmanthus-flavoured rice wine. The fragrant rice wine filled the air as soon as this dessert was brought to us. It is equally yummy too :D Perfect ending to a nice meal!

Set Menus for Chinese New Year are priced at RM698++ per table of four persons, RM1582++ and RM2982++ per table of 10 persons.
