No sound..

Ethan officially started school today. Not a kindie but more of an enrichment centre kind of thing, Vital Years to be exact. I did not start teaching there as expected but was there to see if Ethan will be alright.

The moment we entered, Ethan was ushered into the classroom by Aunty Mei a.k.a da Boss. He did not cry nor did he ask for me. He was extremely SILENT! He sat there all by himself, refusing to open his mouth (except to drink from his water bottle)! And he remained SILENT the whole one hour there. Every facilitator tried to warm up to him but to no avail. All he did was to colour a picture of a cat. Finally, after his hour was up, he was permitted to leave the room.

Once out of that room, upon seeing me, he ran to me and hugged me so tight. When I started to talk to the facilitators, only THEN did Ethan start talking to them too. My bad! I forgot to introduce him to them in the first place. He went into the classroom not knowing who they were so he kept quiet all by himself!

So we extended another hour for him and happily he read to ME while the facilitators watched. He was fast-tracked into mid of Stage 2.

No photos this time as I refrained from entering the classroom during his lesson. I wanted him to be independent and now I know he can survive without me being there.

What have I come out with today? He will go for his lessons in the mornings, 3 times a week without me. I will teach there, twice a week in the evenings and he will tag along, not to learn but to play. Good deal? I think so too :D

oh…my kid also joined Vital Years when he was 2 yrs old. We actually bring him there before school starts to 'warm up' first and yeah, the teachers are great, they played with him. On the first day, my wife waited outside in case he's not ok and he was fine throughout, though at some days he dun feel like attending school which is normal.

Chrisau – The days that he doesn't want to attend school has got to be when he was in Stage 3. That is the 'hell' stage where many kids will drop out. I know coz I taught there before :D Ethan is in Stg 2 now and very soon will be in Stg 3 and I hope he will not drop out then.. pls pls pls..

Ethan is into "operasi bohsia" so have to be SILENT haha. Nowadays children are starting 'kindie' so much younger. Those days when I sent my daughter to kindie at age 2+ all my friends & relatives said I was out of my mind. I may be crazy but I'm glad I made the right choice.:P
