1st Putrajaya International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta 2009

For the first time in Malaysia, balloonist from around the world gather in Precinct 2, Putrajaya adjacent to the ‘Monumen Alaf Baru’. 25 Hot Air Balloons are said to be participating with 20 standard shaped hot air balloons and 5 special shaped hot air balloons.

Pilots from 19 countries have been invited to participate in the Fiesta. Namely, Australia, Belgium, Germany, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Oman, Philippines, Switzerland, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, UAE, United Kingdom and United States of America.

Darling, Ethan and I managed to drag ourselves out of bed so early in the morning to check out the Fiesta.

There were a total of 70 tickets up for sale for the balloon rides but all were snapped up in under 10 minutes when the booth was open at 7am! We were not one of the fortunate ones who managed to get hold of the tickets. So we had to make do with just being on the ground looking at the balloon going up… then down… then up.. then down.. hahaha.. It didn’t actually bring you anywhere!

It was certainly a nice experience to actually be there looking at all those gigantic and beautiful Hot Air Balloons. Next time, looking will not do it, riding it is our aim!
