Can I buy you some love?

I read with utter shock and disbelieve when a fellow blogger friend revealed that he has only budgeted RM20 for a gift to his wife this Valentine’s day. But after the shock subsided, I think that his wife is indeed lucky for him to still be thinking of what to get her although it was only RM20.

Darling has warned me weeks earlier that he will get me nothing tomorrow. And I know he is serious for he has not gotten me anything for this particular day since like.. forever? I don’t mind for I know that this day has nothing significant to either Darling or I. But that got me reminiscence my good ol‘ schooling days.

School dayz, I was never in any special relationship. But I do received gifts during Valentines. And boy I tell you, how cool and unsurprised I tend to portray of the gifts back then, in my heart, I was really happy. Although I never get any gift from the one GUY that matters, getting gifts from other guys really made my day.

During our teens, we were care-free. And being in school, getting gifts during Valentines is like being uplifted one notch where self-esteem is concern. I was not one of the popular girls in school. I don’t get noticed when I walk into a classroom. That is why receiving gifts during Valentines was very meaningful to me back then. It got my heart fluttering like there is a butterfly trapped inside. Nevertheless, I never got attached to any of the boys who sends me gifts. I never got attached to anyone during school days for all that matters. I was one of those under height, over weight girls and my self-esteem was like below negative. So now you understand why getting gifts made me jumping like a little girl when no one was looking.

Back to the present time, I have no resentment to Darling for not getting me any gifts or bringing me out for a nice meal tomorrow. For now I am more realistic and I know that everywhere tomorrow, gifts and nice food will be overcharged. Don’t even dare to think of roses… It will not be worth the money. But for all that matters to me, Darling has given me the greatest gift of all and that gift is no other than my precious (now not so little) baby Ethan…
