Early morning rush to the hospital’s ER

It was 4am and Ethan woke up, vomiting. Darling and I immediately rush him to the ER. Why? Because the previous evening, Ethan had a bad fall. He was walking when he slipped, fell and landed right on the back of his head. Though nothing much happened then, now that he is vomiting, it is time for me to panic.

The doctor checked Ethan’s reflexes, eyes and ears. No sign of bleeding in his ears, which is a good sign. Eyes are ok. Reflexes fine. Doctor gave a clearance. But Darling and I are not contented. Doctor suggested CT scan. But how? He can’t sedate Ethan. How to scan if Ethan is turning and fussing in there?

So we brought him home for observation. The first 24 hours after a fall is the most important period. He has vomited twice again at home. Otherwise he is as active as he normally is. I am crossing my fingers and toes that Ethan will be alright. Please be alright. 3 hours more before the 24 hours run out. I can’t do a single thing. My mind is not functioning. I google for help.. I got some info.

What Do I Do?
The bumps and bruises from falls can be cared for at home with ice or a cold cloth. After a fall, hold your child until she stops crying.
There is no need to see a doctor if your child:
*Cries and moves freely.
*Does not complain of pain.
*Does not become sleepy, irritable or start vomiting.
Take your child to see a doctor if, in the 24 hours after the fall, he:
*Starts to vomit.
*Complains of pain.
*Becomes unusually irritable.
*Sleeps more than usual or becomes difficult to wake up.
Call the emergency number “911″ and keep your child warm if she:
*Is unconscious.
*Has clear fluid or blood coming from her nose, ears or mouth.
*Has an arm or leg in an unusual position.
*Complains of neck or back pain.
What Shouldn’t I Do?
*Do not move your child if:
*You believe a bone is broken.
*He complains of neck or back pain.
*There is drainage (liquid) from the ears, nose or mouth.
*Call “911″ immediately.
