12. Little Artist

On any ordinary day, Ethan sleeps at 9-10pm and rises at 7.30am. During the day he naps for another 1-2 hours. On average, Ethan sleeps around 11-12 hours a day. That leaves plenty of AWAKE time for him. Besides eating and playing, what else can I do to keep him occupied?

Once in a while, I like to nurture the ‘creative’ side of him. I let him play with colours.. any types of colours ie. pencils, pens, colour pencils, crayons and the latest is.. poster colour. As I get him into his ‘artist-wear’ (shirt and cap) he knows it is time to colour! I will set up the painting area and let him do his stuff there. Mind you, the floor and surrounding area will DEFINITELY be a little messy, but everything will be sparkling clean again after a wipe with a damp cloth. What is a little dirt in comparison with a child’s learning process?

So far, all his paintings look kind of similar, with colourful streaks here and there (and I love them all!). But his grasp on the pencil, pen or paintbrush and all are getting so much better. He can even transfer it to another hand and back and re-adjust the position of the brush. He can even hold his own palette. He paints more on the paper now instead of outside it. By the look of it, I think his favourite at the moment is the poster colour because the colours are more vibrant and bright.

Whatever it is, I’ll just let him experiment with colours and more colours. It’s all part of learning and growing up…
