11. ‘Kan-Cheong’ Kitchen

I’m a housewife. That means I cook, clean, do laundry, ironing, sweep, mop the floor, wash the loo and so many others that people nowadays hire a maid or domestic helper to do. But I am a housewife, so I do all that MYSELF!

Ever since Ethan starts walking, getting the housework done is a challenge. Previously, I can just put him in his crib which I converted into a play-pen during the day and get all my chores done. But now…. he will not sit in there and demand to participate in whatever I am doing. He is at the stage where imitation plays a big part of his life. He will imitate whatever he sees I am doing. He is learning through imitation.

The most challenging task to get done is cooking because the rest I can do while he is sleeping. But cooking needs to be done on time, or else we won’t have anything to eat.. or shall I say Ethan won’t have anything to eat. And by that I mean cooking ‘adult’ food as Ethan refuses to eat anything except food that his Mummy and Daddy eat! So to get it done without Ethan being in the way, I let him participate in the preparation part. As I chopped, cut and dice the vegetables and meat, Ethan will do the same with his set of cutleries (child-safe version) and real vege and meat.

And when the actual cooking is taking place, Ethan will sit on the floor enjoying a snack or two. Here multi-task is the key as I need to keep my eyes on my cooking as well as on Ethan because we should NEVER leave a child unattended while he is eating. Usually by the time he finishes his snack I would be done with the cooking too.

At the end of every ‘hot’ cooking session, I always like to treat Ethan to his favourite drink, honey with lemon juice, REAL lemon juice! ;p
